Construction will start in October on the $150 million St. Mary's Janesville Hospital and Dean Clinic on Janesville's east side.

"It's a great day for Janesville and a ray of hope for our local economy," said Mary Starmann-Harrison, regional president and CEO of SSM Health Care of Wisconsin. "We're ready to move full speed ahead and get this medical campus up and running."

SSM and Dean announced plans for the project in April 2008 but delayed it in February when faced with an unfavorable borrowing climate.

But the partners are now moving ahead with the project, which is expected to open in late 2011.

The hospital and clinic are expected to create 344 direct jobs, plus 155 indirect jobs.

It is refreshing to see nothing but positive comments. No bickering, no petty corrections by the grammar/spelling police, no over-use of punctuation and capital letters to show how serious the poster really is. No comments trying to educate the masses. My faith is restored. Everyone have a great day!

Agreed...very good news. I have not always had the best luck at Mercy so am excited to have a choice. And I believe a little healthy competition for Mercy will mean better service for their customers.
