The victim of a Beloit shooting remains in critical condition tonight, though she has stabilized, said Capt. William Tyler with the Beloit Police Department.

The 17-year-old woman was shot near Porter Avenue and Switch Track Alley at 1:25 a.m., according to a news release from the department.

Police aren't releasing the woman's name as they wait for family members to arrive in the area, Tyler said. They are investigating several people in connection with the shooting but aren't releasing any details of possible suspects tonight, he said.

This 17-year old girl was not the offender. She was a victim. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Somewhere she probably should not have been - but 17 IS still a kid. They make unwise choices. Unfortunately this poor girl has had to pay a horrible price for an unwise choice.

I don't know the girl personally, but I know a family that does and is very close to the girl's grandparents. She is not a bad girl, just a young teenager making a poor choice.

My prayers are with this girl's family. I'm praying that she makes a full recovery from the 2 gunshot wounds that hit several vital organs.

Not sure what is the bigger tragedy here. The fact that there was a young female shot in Beloit or that spikesmom is so bothered that they called the victim a "woman" when she's only 17.

Attempted murder in Beloit?? NO, say it isn't so. I hope the girl gets better and is able to identify the perp.

Actually, for prosecution of a criminal offense she is an adult.

Can we not refer to the 17-year-old as a woman? She is still a minor.
