MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Madison typically does well on national quality-of-life rankings. Not this time. An allergy foundation has ranked Madison one of the most challenging places to live for people with spring allergies. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America has ranked Wisconsin’s capital the fourth-most challenging city in the U.S., up from 29th a year ago. The factors that go into the rankings include amount of seasonal pollen, volume of allergy medicine used per patient and the number of licensed allergists per patient. The only other Wisconsin city in the top 100 was Milwaukee, which ranked 56th. Minneapolis was the lone Minnesota city, which ranked 82nd. Dr. Mark Moss is an allergist with the University of Wisconsin Health Hospital and Clinics. He says Madison probably ranked high because ragweed grows especially well in Wisconsin.
