Popsicles, Drumsticks and crack: Ice cream vendor charged with drug sales

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Saturday, July 25, 2009 - 9:21 p.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Green Bay man who was granted a permit for his ice-cream truck despite a marijuana conviction has been charged with trying to sell crack cocaine

Twenty-three-year-old Lavelle Johnson was charged Friday with delivering between 1 and 5 grams of crack cocaine. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 12 1/2 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

Online court records didn’t list a defense attorney on Saturday. Johnson was arrested Thursday, two days after the Green Bay City Council granted him the seller’s permit.

The panel took into account Johnson’s 2004 marijuana conviction but may not have known about the alleged cocaine sale back in March.

That drug sting was conducted by the Brown County Drug Task Force, which is independent of Green Bay police.

i was just informed by a friend that you posted that same email on this blog. i hope when you grow up to be an adult you realize how stupid that is. thats my info and you have NO RIGHT to post it. i am not afraid of who i am or what i do. but its my story to tell. not yours or any stinkin info you find on google. if you dont agree with my beliefs regarding pot thats fine. post your opinions right behind mine every time. i welcome it. but if i burn you and you google 'thekid3477' to get some info on me and post it in retaliation...well i dont know what to say about that. karma flows the bad way to man.

pardon me reading this too literally, but...msleo said, "Is it racist to call someone short? Yes. Is it racist to call someone fat? Yes." NOOOOO. It's NOT racist, It might be rude and/or discriminatory, but RACIST deals with a person's RACE. WHEW! I'm glad I got that off my chest. I wasn't sure if I could sleep tonight without pointing that out. Again, I'm sorry for being too literal. It's a little problem of mine. Perhaps a 12-step program might help.

cardtrader and others who are disgusted by the haste of the posters on here, I agree with you totally. That is why I had to take a very long break from posting/reading the gazette online. The comments on here tend to put negativity into my mind, and I can do without that....and it is apparent that most of these posters thrive on that, and no matter how much we tell them in a well rounded environment they truly do look ridiculous, they will continue to believe they are superior. Just go to bed at night with a clear mind and soul, and peace will find you..... :)

White people commit crime, brown people commit crime, black people commit crime and red people commit crime. Non-racist people accept that fact. It is the innuedos and stereotypes come out as fact when the "black", "brown", "red" man commits the crime that most people find insulting. Furthermore, when someone pulls the race card, and it is without merit, it sucks for the person who played it. If they have cause, there is a legal system and federal protections that will make anyone who violates their civil rights pay big time. Unfortunately, tolerance and restraint are in short supply on both sides of the equation.

What's the problem with skin color being mentioned? When someone is describing what a person looks like they give hair color, eye color, height, weight, and skin color. SO WHAT! Is it racist to call someone short? Yes. Is it racist to call someone fat? Yes. Is it racist to call someone Asian? Yes. Mexican? Yes. Black? Yes. White? Yes.
Why do you have to get all bent out of shape when the race you ARE is mentioned in the description of you? It's no different than if someone gets all upset when they are called a redhead when they have red hair. Yet God help you if you say what color their skin is in their description.
If I'm trying to point out someone to who ever I'm talking to in a room full of people, I will list the FACTS of that person, and skin color is one of them. How does saying what color the skin is degrade that person? It's NO DIFFERENT than eye or hair color!
All the people - no matter what color - screaming racism are the ones keeping racism alive!

Have you guys noticed that every topic that is listed on the gazette, has been totally ignored, in order to correct people that wish to add racial tone ,and sidetrack the subject at hand, im noticing this more and more often, even human interest storys end up marred , this is disturbing to me ,I will continue to support this community and teach,my children that because you can speak your mind, does not make it right, just because you can say it... if you must be racial about life please keep your opinions to yourselves thank you....

"Hey control your (YOU'RE) missing the point weather (WHETHER) by ignorance or just plain stupidity, the race plays an important part of narrowing down potential bad guys, but not when used to stereo type (STEREOTYPE) ones (ONE'S) race or group of people" Don't you just love it when someone accuses someone else of stupidity while displaying classic signs of the affliction themselves?

racially charged comments generally are made by those who are afraid of someone different than themselves or by those who are ignorant and have chosen not to learn. I try not to give that type of person any of my time or waste any energy on it, as it's quite apparent nothing said on a comment blog will change a person's perceptions. This particular person, whether he is purple or orange, is an example of what has gone wrong in America.

People try to better themselves and their family, become entrepreneurs and can't afford the expense of being in business because there are those that just try to get away with illegal activity under the guise of a legit business.

So let me get this straight, next time there is a bank robbery, rape or something and the person gets away and the victim or police give a description of the person they should not be giving the persons race along with the other parts of the description? "Calling all cars calling all cars be on the lookout for a bank robber 6' tall 180 lbs wearing jeans and a t-shirt" hmmmmmm was this robber balck, white, hispanic, asain or ???? I think knowing the race would help narrow things down a little more and make things easier

(shopierehuh) sounds angry ,and the racial undertones are loud and clear, personally i don't care what color the man is , and it is not important. but thanks for the racial update. however every time a news story hits the paper references are made of a persons race immediately after the description of the crime.
Then an arrogant person uses low i.q and third grade intelligence to highlight a persons skin color.

why are you so giddy up about what race done it?
you know white kids steal, kill and sell drugs too...
does it matter what color they are?
I promise you if im ever one of your peers on a jury on trial at court, color will not be a factor when i give my verdict. I say hang all races by the neck for crimes until some one notices that color doesn`t make a differance...
it not good for white kids or black or red or yellow to break the laws in our country, or to punish one more than the other...

" Say, perhaps he is being racially profiled by the police, maybe the President of the United States will step in with some words of wisdom."

if your not profiled how could you relate to someone who is... every time any of you can sum up someones life in a comment , you are guilty of profiling. and every time someone makes condesending and racial remarks ,you are guilty of racism and low intelligence.
I feel bad that i help build this country and it inhabited by morons...

perhaps the former president has some words of wisdom for you "all men are created equal".....

If this guy would have been selling marjiuana out the window of his ice cream truck, along with the crack and God knows what else, we would have a bunch of them dope-heads posting on how they think pot is so "harmless".
Another thing, too? How do ice cream truck drivers wash their hands? They handle all that filthy money all day and you just know they don't rub that disinfectant stuff on their hands after every sale.
