Wis. mom of dead girl: Sickness caused by sin
WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — The mother of an 11-year-old central Wisconsin girl who died of undiagnosed diabetes says sickness is caused by sin and can be cured by God.
Leilani Neumann took the witness stand Tuesday in her husband's trial. Dale Neumann is charged with second-degree reckless homicide for praying instead of rushing his gravely ill daughter to the doctor.
Leilani Neumann was convicted of the same charge in May and awaits sentencing Oct. 6.
The mother says she realized her daughter was seriously ill on March 22, 2008, the day before she died. She says she was worried because the girl was weak and very pale. The mother testified she could not remember hearing the girl speak clearly that day.
She says the family's response to the girl's condition was to pray for her.

Bill- I believe your interpretation of the verse is a literal one, can you apply that same scrutiny to the other verses I posted - specifically the one with the she-bears? In the meantime while you ignore that question - here are two more verses that say christians should be able to cure the sick.
.
John 14 -
12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Mark16:
17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
.
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

These parents ignoring medical attention because they thought some praying was going to miraculously cure their child, or people actually posting some of the crap they are on here like there's actually an argument to be had. The fact that this family let their daughter die because of a supposed religious belief is ridiculous. The problem with this is that the child has no say in how they want to be treated. If the girl knew that she was going to die and her parents could take her to a doctor to save her life or let her die by praying, which choice would she have made? I guess that all depends on how much the family really believed. You can brainwash a child into thinking whatever you want them too.

I don't hear anything outrageous in what she said, and nothing that isn't believed by other Christians. They believe (I don't) that the Fall brought mortality and illness into the world. Thus, sin in a general sense is the root of sickness. Many Christians also believe that suffering brings one closer to Christ. What is so different from these general Christian beliefs to the beliefs of this family?

It is important to distinguish between the Old Testament's interpretation of what happened and critical history. In order to write a reliable account, the historian needs more or less objective sources contemporary with the events themselves. . . . They reveal facts concerning the period in which they were written, but they do not necessarily contain literally accurate accounts of the events they report.
.
Legal materials are sufficiently prominent in the Hebrew Scriptures that the term Torah (Law) came to be applied in Judaism to the first five books, and in early Christianity to the entire Old Testament. Legal writings dominate in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers. . . .

"Religion is dangerous"... you are right! I don't like religion either! www.notreligion.com Noah parting the sea? It was Moses and why wouldn't you believe it? Adam didn't just hear the voice of God, he walked with God in the garden and talked with Him face to face. It was because of the sin that we are no longer able to see God. Sin seperates us from God....there is only one answer for that Jesus Christ who paid the ultimate price once and for all the ultimate sacrifice that we can be free from the bondage and weight that sin puts on us. Seriously, you can't look at all of creation from the tiniest detail to the largest detail and say that it just happened! Impossible! Again, try asking God every day to prove He is who He says He is and see what happens... Gary Primer...That is awesome He is your God too! NoCheapthrill...Continue researching your history and see how God was involved with the founding of the USA...Prove me entirely wrong...Religion is just rituals, symbolism, man-made creeds, man's attempt to get to God. God's love, mercy, grace now that is God reaching down to His creation. My God is the One true LIVING, God, Jehovah! Prove me wrong...These parent's were wrong in not seeking medical attention for their daughter when they first knew she had diabetes! They will answer to God for that decision. Not only did that decision make another bad name for christians but also for God and that is not what He would have someone do.

I don't understand why you say to look at the sun, moon, stars, fish, animals and etc. to see that there is a God. How does that prove that there was one human that created all of that. Isn't the story of Adam and Eve the first humans that walked the earth? If that is true than God is not a human and just a voice that Adam heard? I'm confrused... And this confusion is why I don't trust the word of God... because I can't see the physical evidence in front of me. I know that history are stories of eye witness but I find it really hard to believe that Noah split a sea in two so that people could walk thru it... or that Eve ate an apple and now I have to spend $5 at Walgreens every month... Yes, the parents should be criminally liable. Just because someone uses God's name to do something doesn't mean that it is really of God... God tells us in the Bible to test everything you hear including the words of people who say they are pastors, preachers, prophets, christians any one claiming to "hear from God" or know all about God. It is written that we should test all things by the word of God, the Bible. The thing is God is not our puppet master, this girl's death was a result of her parents' choices. We are obviously given a choice in every situation. If God were to take complete control of all our decisions than we wouldn't have any freedoms to make up our own minds. There are rules of life, conduct, morality, values, it is our choice to follow them or not. God is not death to this little girl or to anyone. God is life to this girl in actuality. God being a "middle man", that is an interesting thought. I would say the doctor is the middle man being used of God to make me well. Again, God's thoughts and wisdom is so much more so than ours that why would I only want to rely on man's wisdom? Look at government, education, healthcare even parents, obviously man's wisdom is very much lacking in many areas. I personally have experienced His healing in my own body and know of a few people who have been healed of sicknesses and diseases that no way could have been just from the hands of a doctor. Many doctors have witnessed healings in patients that were unexplainable other than the fact that the patient or the patient's family had been praying for them. I have also experienced many prayers answered that could not possibly be just coincidence. Ignorance is bliss? Hmmmm....not sure what I would be ignorant of? I'm just saying...
