JANESVILLE -- A Janesville man was ordered to stand trial Friday in the death of a man killed in a hit-and-run crash.

Omar Miguel Lopez, 24, of 2323 Mt. Zion Ave., Janesville, is charged with hit-and-run involving death and knowingly operating while revoked.

Rock County Court Commissioner Stephen Meyer bound him over for trial after a preliminary hearing.

Bradley Griffith, 45, of 2614 Vail Court, No. 2, Janesville, died in the crash.

Lopez is accused of driving a car east on Mt. Zion Avenue at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, April 11, when he collided with Griffith, who was on a motorcycle, according to the criminal complaint.

A witness told police Lopez had a red light and was traveling 50 mph, according to the criminal complaint.

Im sure they are checking his status. Which they should. But every latina should not be put into one big catagory. The same for african americans, asians and yes...white people too

U know I get sooo mad at some of the ignorance this country deals with.If his name was Bill Penuckle, I assure you that some of these racists wouldnt have said a word. If his name was Jo Bluehorse they'd be yelling at him telling him to go back to the reservation, or Jevon Jackson who would be told to go back to the ghetto. It is assumptions and stereotypes that keep this country shi**y. We have more important issues to worry about than where someone is from. Thats why we are supposed to live in a free country, we are all human race. Personally I am glad we have a black president just for gp. So pi** on all u people that dont like it. I dont see any of u stepping up to be president. GO OBAMA!!!!:)~

How sad you are assuming just because of his name he is here illegally in "YOUR" country!? Well, this is OUR country and all kinds of people live here! So, what you are saying is if someone with a Spanish name commits a crime they must be illegal?? What you are showing about yourself is you are a racist! What do you think of Spanish people walking down the street? You assume they ALL are illegal? I would rather have a country full of hard working illegal citizens then a country full of ignorant racists!!!!!!!! EVERYONE should follow the rules and one of the rules is RACISM is NOT acceptable!!!!!!!!!

Whatever... I don't give a rat's "arse" where they come from. Obey the rules of MY country! If you are here illegally... I want YOUR butt deported. I have to live by the rules... so does everyone else. Get out - if you have not entered MY COUNTRY legally. I don't want YOU here, I don't care what brought you here / or why.
.
I read all these articles where the perp's name is of Mexican decent... I don't read between the lines.. I see what I see. Deport them!!!

Sprout,
where in this article does it state that the driver is an illegal? OR is it that your judging him because of his name?
To answer your question, yes I have looked in the mirror lately.
You might as well get used to "their" being here or anywhere else for that matter.

Wisconsin's Financial Responsibility Law

Q. Is auto insurance mandatory in Wisconsin?

Wisconsin has a financial responsibility law. It is designed to make sure that any motorist licensed to drive in Wisconsin has insurance or enough money to pay for damages to others that may be caused by a motor vehicle. These requirements may be met through a motor vehicle liability insurance policy, a surety bond, personal funds, or certificate of self-insurance. Details are available at the Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Hill Farms State Office Building, 4802 Sheboygan Ave., Madison, WI 53702.

Q. If I decide to satisfy the financial responsibility requirements of Wisconsin by buying auto insurance, what coverages are required in Wisconsin and what are the minimum limits I can purchase?

If you decide to satisfy the requirements of the Wisconsin Financial Responsibility Law by buying auto insurance, your policy must provide the following minimum liability coverage:

$25,000 for injury or death of one person;
$50,000 for injury or death of two or more people; and $10,000 for property damage.
The law also requires uninsured motorist coverage of $25,000/$50,000 for bodily injury liability coverage only.

You may want to protect your assets by purchasing more coverage than what is provided in the minimum policy required in Wisconsin. Higher limits are available for an additional premium.

Sprout,
I read your post.
Apparently, you don't know that Wisconsin is a state where driver's are NOT required to have auto insurance.
Therefore, you might want to educate yourself about certain issue's before spewing your ugliness.
Wisconsin has alot of uninsured motorists.Hopefully, you won't meet one by accident.

I dont see anything that says he is here illegally. IMO its wrong to assume he is illegal. There are some people that are legal.

His license was revoked, and he was driving like an idiot! Don't "send him home", lock his loser butt up... If he runs to the border, he'll be back, in some other community and probably do the same thing!

My grandbabies are just southeast of there... it could have been my littlest one on her tricycle!
