Franklin placed on ‘watch list’
Most groups of students at Franklin Middle School have met government standards for academic improvement this school year, but one group did not.
That group, students with disabilities, did not meet the state standard for improvement in reading, the state Department of Public Instruction announced today.
That means that Franklin is on a “watch list” of schools that failed to make “adequate yearly progress,” said school district testing coordinator Ruth Robinson.

WHAT about the parents?? They should be on watch list as well! A school can do only so much if it isn't implemented at home! I am not sure what the community expects of our schools?? More and more they are expected to be parents, police, teachers and counselors....where does their job description begin and end? No wonder there is such a decline in enrollment for education in the colleges, and no wonder they keep coming up with these special grants to encourage people to study to become teachers. I would be terrified of the repercussions of my every day. Teachers have no respect anymore. I remember when I was a child, the teacher was pretty much "God". And there were certain teachers you were just terrified of and wouldn't dare misbehave in their class, now the students tell someone and that teacher is considered inappropriate. I think this is just terrible. My opinion, yes, but all the same, it seems unfair!

I know of a child with dyslexia that attends Franklin and isn't doing well. So, I think it's a good idea that they are on a watch list. Just because a child has a disability doesn't mean they shouldn't have the help they need and deserve. I think more schools need to be held accountable that the child they pass to the next grade is academically ready and not just passing them to pass them.

so stupid putting any school on a "WATCH LIST" The teachers do a wonderful job at great odds. If parents dont like the way schools are teaching, keep them home and home school them. Maybe thats to much trouble for parents? WE have all these special interest groups that get paid by govt programs (taxpayers) and have nothing else to do, I say to them get a real job and quit sponging on the taxpayers.

I personally dont think Franklin should be on any watch list. My grandson has disabilities and goes there, and you couldnt find a better group of teachers. They work very hard.
