Traffic backed up near Stoughton
Traffic is down to one lane in both directions surrounding a crash on Interstate 90/39 near the 151 mile marker near Stoughton, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. and has affected the lanes closest to the median in each direction. The right lanes in each direction remain open.
Traffic could be delayed for up to two hours. There is no designated detour, but drivers should expect delays and are advised to avoid the area, the release says.

Also, from what I can tell from available information, these crashes all occurred in the same area as the 100-vehicle crash in January 2008. That incident involved traffic on both sides of the interstate also.

According to the State Patrol:
A 2003 Chevy Tahoe carrying five people in the left lane lost control about 3:56 p.m., overcorrected and rolled into the median, throwing two passengers into westbound traffic.
A 67-year-old passenger was flown to UW Hospital. The four other occupants, all from Illinois, also were taken to UW Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two people were not wearing seat belts. Names were not released.
Shortly after the rollover, inattentive driving as traffic slowed in the eastbound lanes led to a three-car crash with minor injuries at the same location. One driver, Karl T. Gallagher, 47, of Genoa, Ill., was cited for inattentive driving.
Two people at different locations on the Interstate stopped breathing and had no pulses while traffic was backed up. Two troopers performed CPR on one of them. They were taken to Meriter Hospital, according to the Madison Fire Department, and their statuses were not known
NOTE: As the above information states, TWO PEOPLE STUCK IN THE TRAFFIC DELAY REQUIRED CPR. What a mess! Thanks to all of the paramedics and troopers who came to everyone's aid.

from WKOW - "The State Patrol said an SUV from Illinois was in the left eastbound lane when it lost control, over corrected and rolled into the median.
Two people were ejected. In total, five injured one with life threatening injuries.
At one point, traffic was stopped completely in both directions so emergency crews and UW Med Flight could get access.
As this was happening, a car from Illinois on the westbound side didn't slow down, causing a chain reaction crash with the two vehicles in front of it."

Being on that road quite often, I would, actually, place my bet that it WAS caused by a reckless idiot ......90 is well-populated with them and NOTHING is done about it........lack of police "funding" I suppose...ha ha ha...

Nope, the article didn't say that but it also didn't say it wasn't....All I was saying was, with the information available, the author didn't jump to the conclusion that it was an "accident" like some reporters do. No big deal, thats all I meant...

"Causing a wreck by speeding in excess and/or driving like an idiot"
Where does it say that in this article?

Kudos to the article author for not using the word "accident".....Causing a wreck by speeding in excess and/or driving like an idiot is NOT an "accident", its something someone DELIBERATELY chose to do

according to WKOW the accident was caused by vehicles from Illinois...no surprise there. Seems like any time I drive 90/39 on a weekend, there are 5 Illinois cars driving 90mph per ever Wisconsin car speeding.

My friend was a few cars behind when the accident happened and called me right away.He said when he got closer it was real bad. There were 2 accidents I guess. It was a mess out there. I got home and have been listening to the scanner and it sounds bad. I know there was a pulseness non-breather at one of the scenes. I pray for everyone involved!

Just got home from up north and went through this mess. Medflight came and about 6 ambulances. Looked like a black Trilblazer had rolled in the median. Then, about 1/2 mile south from there, there was a van in the median and the police and paramedics had someone out on the ground doing chest compressions. The van didn't look like it had been in an accident or anything.
