Madison police raid alleged cockfighting site
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Madison authorities seized more than three dozen roosters allegedly used for cockfighting.
The raid of a south side residence also resulted in the arrest of a 47-year-old man on a tentative felony charge of instigating animal fights.
Police Officer Howard Payne said 37 roosters were found in a caged living area at the address.
He said, “They also found a dedicated area for fighting activity with animals and an observation area where chairs were set up.” According to Payne, “It looked like a scene for cockfighting.”
The roosters were taken to the Dane County Humane Society shelter Tuesday night to be held as part of the investigation.
