JANESVILLE--If you haven't already gotten your pork chops, you should make different dinner plans.

The annual Rock County Porkfest is sold out of chops, according to Janesville Gazette reporters on the scene at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds in Janesville.

Event planners bought 23,000 chops for the event and planned to serve until 8 p.m.

The event features live music and a kids' educational area.

It's a funny thing, but recently I've noticed that this community, or certain people in it, will find ANYTHING to whine and complain about, no matter the subject.
******
This was for a GREAT cause to benefit local 4-h/FFA kids. Lol, I give up.
*****
Go ahead everyone......complain, as that's what our city is great at.

Though I do like to "hoe" my garden to keep the weeds back......So I could indeed be that as well....hmmm.

Hey Haasemen27--> Learn how to spell dear ;) I'm not a "hoe" loving girl, I'm a HORSE loving girl. I did sense the small amount of sarcasm you were trying to put forth though, so good try. Oh and by the way a "hoe" is a garden tool, not a female so and so(not going into details on this one).

I can tell by a few of the comments that some of these posters have never been in a management position before, you have to go by your last years figures, weather, price and what ever else is going on in the area at the same time,if it would have rained what do you do,tell Sorgs you can take them back? I drove through Janesville on Wednsday and must have seen 5 signs. Congrats to the pork producers and keep up the good work.

haaseman27 -- a little bit of "advance" information for you...Porkfest is always the 3rd Wednesday of June at the Rock County Fairgrounds. That would make next year's event on June 16, 2010. There...you've been notified a year in advance!

I knew about Porkfest for at least 3 weeks prior!
I waited in the drive thru for about 45 minutes, but it was worth it!

Hassemen---> I'm sure you headed to McDonald's then right? Poorly publisized? You seriously made lol, thanks for that buddy. ;) You obviously must not listen to a radio, read signs as you are driving around, read the gazette, etc. It was planned out VERY well, organized great, and is always a great way to raise money for the local FFA/4-h kids. I honestly cannot believe that people are complaining about it? When doesn't someone in this city complain about something, seriously? UGH.

It was great that they ran out of chops! It's better than having left overs. Do all of you not understand WHERE the MONEY made from this goes??? I will agree that the drive up should have been worked out a little better, but other than that the lines went fast, the food was great, and the people were nice!

Setting up for pre-orders next year is a good idea. I imagine one of the limitations (besides ensuring they can afford the pork they buy in case it doesn't all sell) is refrigeration space.

Just a thought...maybe next year they could do a pre order thing for the take outs? I dunno how it works tho so not sure if that is an answer. Glad to hear there was such a great turn out tho.

I must be one of the few that read the ads on the Gazette online website. The ad for the pork fest has been sitting atop the logo area for weeks now ... and flashing the porkfest date, etc., the whole time.

Maybe next year.....there should be a limit. Instead of selling hundreds of dollars worth of the uncooked pork chops. Allow maybe 4 per person. So that there is still some for others to enjoy that waited patiently in their cars and ended up with none. Or maybe next year...Have orders called ahead for the uncooked pork chops. It is suppose to be a Porkfest, not a butcher shop!

Magic one. They didn't have 24,000 they had 23,000. Slight difference just pointing that out. Also bostonbill, did you notice I said 10 seconds not 2.5 hours? notice the difference? I think someone doesn't get it. But you sir also have a nice evening.

I guess I forgot that there would be all of the local unemployed filling up at the troff. Maybe next year.

Haaseman27: Yes, I and others have responded to your comments and poked some fun at them. I will make one more comment to you and then wish you well because you just don’t seem to get it. You wrote, “Hey boston bill, just because it sold out doesn't mean it was planned well. If they had one on hand and it sold in 10 seconds you would consider that good planning? Ummm yea.”

They had 23,000. Not, “one on hand”, but 23,000. Do you see the difference? How about this! This year’s Pork Fest was a big success, maybe even bigger than the organizers and the “host family” (great job to the Wheelers) had even hoped for. It seems to me that there is only one person who is guilty of not doing, “good planning”.
Have a nice evening Haaseman27.

hassaman-
First, how pathetic it must be to be you. Get off your pity pot and start living life.
'poorly planned'...they had 24 thousand pork chops. 24 thousand is not poor planning. It speaks to their popularity that they purchased so many and STILL sold out in record time
I suggest you finance the event...that way, if they take your suggestion and double the order next year and have 20 thousand left over, YOU will be the one footing the bill.
I love that they sold so much and I also love that they sold out. Sounds like perfect planning to me.
Get over yourself and move on with life.

Beentheredonethat... I am sorry unlike you I didn't have this feast marked on my calendar last year. So sorry it gets a bit annoying that the ONE out of TWO events this lame town has runs for half the time advertised. Oh well, I took my money elsewhere for dinner.

I worked at Porkfest! Had a great time. I have to say the event was well planned out. It is hard to estimate an accurate amount when some people were coming through the drive-thru and ordering hundreds of $ worth of uncooked chops as well as the cooked ones they were going to eat tonight. It was once again very successful. Thanks to everyone that came out to support the Rock Co. Pork producers, and most importantly the 4-H and FFA kids!!

I worked at Pork Fest, I had a wonderful time till we ran out, believe me the event was not poorly planned, how can they possibly estimate an accurate amount of chops when you have people coming through the drive through ordering hundreds of dollars of uncooked chops a person plus their cooked meals? It is a great event that helps out 4H and FFA kids!! Thanks to everyone that came out and supported the Rock Co. Pork Producers and the kids.

I must be missing something here.

In a lousy economy, somebody is complaining about an event that they say was, “POORLY planned, POORLY PUBLISIZED, and POORLY executed” yet the complainer also said it, “sold out in 2.5 hours”.

23,000 chops and it only took 2.5 hours to sell out the event.
Who is on this marketing team? If the complainer is correct then somebody needs to sign this marketing team to a long term contract in the City of Janesville. They will have GM building cars here by Friday morning; scores of bike tunnels will be built all over the city; the Tallman House will be spiffy as can be; snowplows will be waiting on every street by July 1st; The Rotary Gardens will be paying people to come; all beaches will be open and the water sparkling clean. There will be all this and more at no cost to taxpayers.

If this sounds too good to be true, then the complainer can drive over to Elkhorn to eat some pork.
June 18-Walworth County Fair Pork Chop Dinner, 4-7 p.m. at the Walworth County Fairgrounds Activity Center, Elkhorn.
Just a thought.

I too saw signs posted road side around town and the Milton Courier had a great right up about it last week. And I'm pretty sure I saw something about in online in the Gazette, because I knew about it prior to the Courier article. Sorry to hear some won't get there chops this year.

Porkfest is always a popular event, and with the great weather it is no wonder they sold out!

There are billboards up everywhere and an article in yesterday's Gazette, I believe. In addition, it is listed on WCLO's Culver's Community Calendar. I found it in about 30 seconds!

Hey Haaseman...Searched for a solid hour? Maybe you should travel down the main roads of Janesville and open your eyes. Signs on: HWY 14 by Shopko, Avalon Road, HWY 51 by the airport. Computers aren't the end all be all. If you really want pork at a fairgrounds, Walworth is having theirs next week. Start looking now or you might miss out again.
