Tub Run will affect traffic
The 15th annual Tub Run for the Muscular Dystrophy Association will roar through Janesville Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.
Motorists are advised to plan around the charity ride. About 1,500 motorcycles are expected to leave from Kutter Harley-Davidson, 3223 N. Pontiac Drive, at noon then head south on North Pontiac Drive to Ruger Avenue. The riders will then take Ruger Avenue east to South Wright Road before leaving the city.
Traffic on Highway 14 could also be affected by the event.
Janesville police recommended driving north on Milton Avenue or North Wright Road, and using East Rotamer Road/Kettering Road to move west or east during the ride.
Organizers of the Tub Run hope to raise $165,000 this year for families affected by MDA in Rock County.
Below is a map of the route. You can also view a PDF by clicking here

brewersrock: The Tub Run is generally the same time every year. How about you pay attention to press releases next year and not be home the day of the ride? Maybe you could be out to the Thresheree helping set up for the evening's festivities?? Problem solved... you won't be annoyed by the 30 minute "ROAR" AND you will be able to happily support the run. Win win.

yes, it would be nice to have the route alternated. Yes, we do live on a busy street, which is part of why I think they should move the route.
Yes, I had issues w/angelwings last year, but since her boyfriend kicked her out, that problem has been solved.
We expected noise on our street when we bought the house, but 30 minutes of that ROAR is ridiculous. I would be happy to support the run...if it was somewhere else.

I think everyone has a right to their opinion here.
This charity run is not a funeral. There is no comparison. Neither is the one about moving next to an airport and complaining about the noise. You live on a street, and expect some traffice noise.
I see both sides here. Perhaps alternating the route each year would solve the problem.

truthteller,
loud pipes don't save lives. It is a myth and all in your head unfortunately. My cycle's stock pipes (non harley) are loud enough and create enough noise barely to inform others I am nearby. Doesn't your bike have a horn? If cars on the road were as loud as 90% of the harleys, they would be outlawed for noise ordinances. I could cut off the catalytic converter and all car pipes behind and still would be quieter than those obnoxious harleys and a few other mfgs. bikes. Try using the horn and not your right wrist for a change.

bikersrights:
If you want to be self-serving and only help charities that will bring you notoriety and get your name in print or to serve just bikers and nobody else, go ahead. DO NOT knock the people who help charities because they WANT TO.
Sure, there might be other "high profile" charities out there but the folks who ride shouldn't be so self-involved that they only do "biker" charities. Your myopic view of what bikers should be doing is embarrassing.

Hey badgerboy I recall seeing special police escorts and road blocks for 5k and other marathons that were held in our county and also bicycle races too, so dont blame it just on the motorcycles, and if you dont like it stay home or take another route, you were given enough advanced notice of the route the past few days

cookiedough- I for one beleive loud pipes on a bike save lifes by letting drivers know they are there. The guy's that do the needless revving of their engines and winding it out every chance they get are the ones that cause the grief.

Babsjvl...I sincerely hope you and your family never have to depend on a fundraiser that others find "inconvenient". Wishing that an event such as this is cancelled shows everyone how small-minded and self-centered you are. My sympathies go out to everyone who knows you.

excellent fundraiser but unfortunately the harley cycles loud pipes are way too loud and should be banned for noise ordinance. 90% of all harleys on the road are a nuisance and probably a lot are over the decibal level of allowable noise ordinances. If Harley ever builds a v-twin with a muffler system that is barely heard, then and only then will I consider buying the overpriced, too loud, and the mystique that if you don't own a harley, then you aren't riding a real bike. The myth that 'loud pipes saves lives' is just a catch phrase someone made up to promote loud harley bikes. That is what a horn is for. Ride on for the great cause but don't expect me to appreciate the annoying and very nuisance harley bikes.

Hannah, really... Brewersrock went through a lot of "issues" with the angels thingy last year. And while she is in a busy neighborhood and should expect a lot of activity, I'm sure she appreciates serenity as well.
.
That said, I love the tub run! Such a ride! So many bikes and such fun, and all for a great cause. And I really think it would be a great idea to alter the route. That's a crappy area of town to be stuck in line with bikes... And perhaps others would like to be able to enjoy the parade from their front yards as well.

Ok Bikersrights you seem to think that people suffering with this disease have chosen to have it. Well they have not. While those that ride bikes have chosen to do so and therefore must understand and accept the things that can happen with that choice. Granted nobody wants to see anybody hurt or certainly killed whether riding a bike or by other means. Yes bikers have rights but they also have to be responsible too. When you straddle that bike and turn the key you know the risk you are running by pulling out onto that street, you made the choice. MD gives you no choice about what it does to you and your family. While I don't want to see anybody suffer for any reason you need to suck it up and quit your complaining. Start your own Tub Run to benefit whatever cause you would like and it sounds like you would like to have it benefit
fallen and injured bikers and their families which is wonderful. Just don't rain on the parade of those that chose to partake in this charity.

It's ONCE A YEAR!!! Why does everyone have to complain about it? It lasts less than an hour through town and then it's over. It's for a good cause and it makes us (riders) happy to raise money for kids. After all, that's who this is all for.

I have been involved with the MDA for over 30 years. My family lives with MD everyday. we see where and what the money goes for. They help buy wheelchairs when the time comes or braces to help these kids keep walking as long as possible. I remember when my brother had to go into a wheelchair and MDA was there to help. It is very hard watching your loved one lose muscle use and get weaker and weaker everyday. I have watched my loved ones die from this disease. It is not fun to watch. Everyday we fear that my brother will not be with us for another christmas or easter or even his own birthday. Please keep up the hard work you all do to find a cure for this awful disease. I commend all of you for what you do for the MDA. I will be there along with my family cheering you all on. God Bless You All! You all are so awesome. Give yourselves a round of applause for all you do. And thank you from my entire family.

bikersrights - you're kinda right with the "sticking together" thing, but I have to agree with everyone else when it comes to the fundraiser. It's probably a cause that means something to the organizers, who happen to be part of the Harley Davidson crowd. That's usually how a fund raiser starts. I would think that if the bikers didn't want to be part of it, they would choose one of the causes you feel so strongly about, or not choose one at all. Your opinions are valid but are not for everyone. Plus, a lot of bikers that I know, do it not only for the cause, but for the ride. And although I too find the noise a little harrassing, I can deal with it once a year for a half an hour... it's the little things in life that people should remember how lucky they are, and not take it for granted.

brewersrock: you sound like the people who buy a house near the airport and then complain about the noise. What do you do if the road crew has to work in front of your house? Kutter H-D and the MDA Tub Run are the best thing for Janesville, bikers come from all over and spend money while they're in the area.

To Janesvillean: Neither the source of this posting nor the number of times and places it may appear in any way detracts from its validity: tinyurl[dot]com/pgny4n
To Topsgt132: I never said the MDA did not do good things for some people ... albeit in a wastefully inefficient manner ... and not forgetting there are many better charities who do more with less. But more important than all that, every dollar bikers give to non-biker charities is a dollar that could and should have gone to the aid of fallen riders and their families... There is no law that says all Harley riders must support the MDA. But the law of survival says that if bikers don't unite to take care of our own, and defend ourselves from the common foe, we will soon go the way of the American Indian. And a hundred years from now, I doubt the Chinese will give us any casinos...

I applaud the Tub Runners for raising so much for local MD families every year. The MDA may not be a four-star charity but it meets legal and industry standards, and Charity Navigator does show that nationally 77% of the money raised will go directly to programs.

I'm probably going to get slammed for this, but I live on the run's route & I don't enjoy the noise or the "parade". Why is it ALWAYS the same route??? Why can't it be changed a little bit so the same residents aren't subjected to it year after year?
We are going out of town to avoid it tomorrow, but there was one year (first that we lived here) that we didn't know what the heck was going on & couldn't get home until it was over.
Yes, it's a good cause, but I just think the route should be changed yearly--perhaps have two different routes that can be alternated...?

Be THANKFUL someone wants to support a great cause-many people sit by and do nothing. Also the Kutter Harley-Davidson is the first one in line for alot of things that are going on around the community. When the troops were ready to leave for Iraq they were the first ones in line that wanted to do something and organized a great celebration. The shirts that the bikers are going to wear this year has the RED ARROW on the back in honor of the troops. More businesses should step up and support the troops that are fighting for your country. So when you hear alittle noise for an hour or so think of the wonderful things the bikers and Kutter Harley-Davidson does for the community.

Bikersrights--Relax and take a time out:) The people support the MDA simply because they want to. It could be that they know someone who is affected by the disease. If you want to be self serving feel free and support the charities you list in your post, but try not to tell others where they should focus their efforts--It just doesn't sound good........

Why should motorcyclists support the MDA--inefficient, poor-administered, rated only two-star by Charity Navigator--when there are so many other charities rated higher for doing more with less? Better question is, why should bikers support ANY non-biker charity ... and thereby indirectly fund the anti-motorcycle healthcare and insurance lobbies ... while every year more than 108,000 biker households suffer loss of income, limb or life ... incurring catastrophic medical bills, burial costs and other expenses ... often due to failure-to-yield and other right-of-way violations resulting from the discretionary distractions of care-less cagers who go unpunished for their crimes? Who is more deserving of biker charity than our own? More here: tinyurl[dot]com/pgny4n
