Michael Jackson dies in Los Angeles hospital

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Thursday, June 25, 2009 - 5:46 p.m.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Jackson, the record-breaking, sensationally gifted "King of Pop" who emerged from childhood superstardom to become the entertainment world's most influential singer and dancer, and the tabloid world's most disturbing celebrity, has died. He was 50.

A person with knowledge of the situation says Jackson died Thursday in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.

His death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.

A pedophile is a child molester. Child molestation is child rape. The criminal term for it is child molestation and not child rapist. Although child rape is a better term.
.
A pederast is also a raper of children. But those children are older than the victims of a pedophile. Don't know where the age difference begins.

SarahB1, without checking into it, I will take your word on what you said about Katz. And I'll note that he said that he was "unable" to diagnose Jackson as a pedophile. He didn't say that Jackson wasn't a pedophile.

I stand by everything else I said.

gazettefan: Actually, you have it wrong. Dr. Stanley Katz, whom I misidentified as a psychiatrist (he is a psychologist), did work for the prosecution side in the molestation trial. He told investigators that he did not believe Jackson was a pedophile. I realize "regressed 10-year-old" is not a DSM-IV diagnosis, but the main point I am making is that Katz said he was unable to diagnose Jackson as a pedophile. And, again, Katz was hired by the prosecution side (the accuser's family) in this case.

SarahB1, there is no such psychiatric condition of "regressed 10 year old." That psychiatrist who testified to that condition was paid by Jackson. The psychiatrist was a professional witness. Professional witnesses are paid to say anything that will support the person who pays them. If that psychiatrist was hired by the other side, he would have said that Jackson was a pedophile.

With all his millions why didn't Jackson ever pursue real psychiatric help? His surgeries, skin dying, and behavior surely warranted such treatment. And why didn't any of his friends or family encourage him to pursue psychiatric help? The answer is that they believed his money, fame, and talent allowed him special privileges. Just like many of his fans continue to do.

Jackson was not a regressed 10 year old, he was a shrewd business person. He purchased the rights to Beatles' music and many other valuable musical properties. Part of his shrewdness was his ruse of acting like a child for the purpose of protecting and justifying his "secret" life. His ruse was and is still successful with a lot of people.

The low-life parents who are accused of jumping on the money train were lower than low. They were low-life enough to actually want their children to be abused so that they, the parents, could ride on that money train.

Now there will be no additional victims.

Wacko Jacko paid $5,000,000.00 to keep one family quiet.

Wouldn't paying a good lawyer that amount to defend your reputation have been worth it?

When he was in his 40's, he admitted that he thought it was okay to share his bed with young, unrelated boys. (The parents of those boys should be real proud of themselves.)

SarahB1, the definition of pedophilia is not well understood and can be misconstrued so I understand what you are saying.

And to all the people who believe MJ did nothing wrong because he wasn't "convicted", OJ is innocent of everything. JMO

I still believe Jackson was NOT a pedophile. Even the psychiatrist who interviewed him for the prosecution testified that he did not think he was a pedophile but, rather, a "regressed 10-year-old". I don't expect many of those commenting here to accept or understand what this all entails. Like I stated earlier, it is a complicated issue.

Mikki... While you have points, I want to comment on your last. Hitler was responsible for countless deaths. He doesn't deserve respect. At all. I believe he went a little nutty there, at the end. Remember Howard Hughes? Seems that sometimes, people with money, can go off the deep end.
Nobody will ever know what was going on in his head. I only think of what his MUSIC meant to me when my mother died and some horrible things happened to me. I escaped into music, and his is what was there at the time.
Like him, hate him. He's gone.
Liza told the press (and I am paraphrasing) "It's good we are celebrating him now, because when the autopsy comes back, all hell will break loose).
It will probably explain a lot.

Also, I understand people not wanting to speak ill of the dead. But if someone did bad things, you can't help it. Are you going to speak well of Hitler, just because he's gone? (I am not making a comparison, just an example).

Apparently some of you have no respect for the dead.

The man was a legend. He was also a 12 year old in a 50 year old man's body. He grew up as a meal ticket to his father.

And about the molestation accusations? What parent in their right mind would take a money settlement instead of jail time if their child was really molested? I am convinced that he was innocent, and the parents were just looking for easy money.

Let the man rest in peace, he deserves that much.

Take away the fame, talent and wealth and even the allegations, what would people think of Jackson if he lived in their neighborhood?

What would the people think of someone with his appearance (the surgery, skin dye, and cloths) and his own statements that he, an adult, had children in his bed?

Why should his fame, wealth, and talent compel people to have a different opinion of him?

He should have paid for that, but if you have enough money...well we saw what happened in the OJ thing. He must have been very lonely even though he was in the limelight alot. It's also a mistake to assume guilt when guilt was never proven. I believe Jackson just as much as the "victims". I believe the "victims" are money hungry pigs just as much as Michael Jackson was a "pedophile". It's a matter of character. Everyone who experiences that kind of childhood doesn't behave like he did. The fact that he attained what everyone wants in this culture and still chose not to control his sick impulses proves it was a matter of character.

Where is the sympathy for his victims? Is he off the hook for what he did to them because of his own childhood? No. No more than his father is off the hook because of whatever his childhood experiences were.

To relieve someone of personal responsibility is to encourage chaos.

Have any of you ever done any research on his childhood? Do you know what his dad and brothers forced him to watch and do? That may explain (but not condone) his unusual behavior. Bostonbill put it pretty well. I can say this, Jackson was great once, later on wrapped in turmoil and scandal. But I wonder if the agents around him and his own family members pushed him into all of that over the many years. Doesn't excuse the things we have all heard about, but I wonder how I would have handled the pressures. If Jackson really did do those acts which he was being accused, then all of his ionic greatness does not exist, and his accomplishment in entertainment should mean nothing.

He paid a LOT of money to keep some people quiet about his “sleep over things, etc.” (If you really feel the need, you can look that up.) I don’t have any respect for his “personal life” and I only like a few of his songs, but he is not the first and probably won’t be the last entertainer (person) to do some extremely questionable things that most of us don’t think are “normal”. I guess that is part of the crazy world we live in. He did bring some amazing entertainment to his fans and that is wonderful. I will never forget watching Michael and his brothers performing at Summerfest in about 1970 or 1971. The crowd became so unruly and thousands swarmed the stage within minutes of the show's beginning. After several failed attempts to calm the crowd and continue the concert, the show was halted for good and The Jackson Five was rushed away. Still, the energy and talent Michael displayed that evening absolutely blew me away. I was about 12 at the time --- as was Michael --- and have yet to see another performer with so much fire blazing inside him.
