MAPLE BLUFF, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle says he “fully expects” to finish out his current term in office which runs through the end of next year.

Doyle’s comments came in response to a question Monday after he signed the next two-year state budget. The question was whether he had been approached by President Barack Obama to take a federal appointment.

Doyle says he has never asked or in any way sought a position from the Obama administration.

Doyle campaigned heavily for Obama, who easily won Wisconsin in November.

Doyle is in the middle of his second term and is expected to seek a third term next year, although he hasn’t officially announced.

He has been out raising money in anticipation of running next year.

Janesvillean, you should beware the press releases of Sen. Leahy, as they are meant to be self-serving and therefore not very reliable. Try these websites, http://www.uscourts.gov/cfapps/webnovada...
http://www.justice.gov/archive/olp/judic...

They are from the DOJ and you will find that the vacancy rate in is much higher that Leahy claims. You can also see the list of nominees for both the court of appeals and the various district courts since 1/07, the start of the last Congress of the Bush presidency. Of 20 appeals court nominees that were not withdrawn (3 total withdrawals), 9 nominees have not even had hearings. By my calculator that's 45%. Now I call that holding up appointments. I also call that opportunity for Gov. Doyle. Maybe he thinks so too.

He lies like the rest of them! What a bunch of hooey! We know that if he were asked he'd jump at the chance to go to washington with his idol Obama! He wouldn't have such a long way to affix his lips to Obama's backside then! I hope this is enough for the people of wisconsin to get those bums out of office!!

REX I have to agree with you and I'm glad, I just came home from work (which I found out tonight NOW there is going to be some lay-offs due to the new budget in advance) Gov Doyle should never been re-elected the last time, yet Mr. Russ Steeber was Re-Elected to the city council some how on A local level so that just shows A small sample of the voting stupidity!!!!! Anything can happen, EVEN IF IT SHOULD NOT EVER HAPPEN!!!!!!

Wow, horrible news travels fast. Why wouldn't he serve out the rest of his term. There have been enough idiots in this state to elect him twice, why would he think there would be any shortage of them the third time around.

I'd love to see Obama appoint Diamond Jim as ambassador to Iraq, Afghanistan, or even Iran :)

billnewbie, I know it's important for you folks to always play the victim -- something about not getting enough candy as a kid or whatnot -- but the fact is that the Democratic Senate between 2006 and 2008 confirmed more judicial appointees than the Republican Senate had, for the same Republican President. By last September, the number of judicial vacancies was at a low 3.9%. When Bush came into office, it was 9.9%.

It's no secret Doyle is not fond of Lt. Gov. Lawton. I've heard that she might be the one to get the plum D.C. post so she'll get out of Wisconsin, which sets the stage for Congressman Ron Kind to come back to Wisconsin and run for Governor. In this scenario, Doyle fills out his term and then gets the federal jubge appointment.

Some of the rumors Doyle is trying to dismiss has him taking over the peace corps, not exactly a plum position. Still another says he wants a federal judgeship for which there are plenty of openings since the Senate had been holding up Bush appointees for the last 3 years or so. Note the key words "fully expect" and "never asked" or "sought" Obama administration positions. Lots of wiggle room there, especially since a judgeship isn't part of the administration. This looks like a classic "non-denial denial" which works for the Governor no matter whether he's appointed to something or not.

Obama is not that dumb to appoint Doyle to a Govt post.

Or maybe he'll have the illegal immigrants be able to vote.
