Janesville police seek robbery suspect
From the WCLO newsroom:
Janesville Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday afternoon at Mid America Bank, 2317 Milton Ave.
Police say an unidentified male suspect gave a teller a note demanding money. The suspect did not display a weapon and the teller was not hurt. The suspect received an undetermined amount of money and fled on foot heading north. Witnesses describe the suspect as white, in his mid-twenties to early thirties, about 5'11" with a thin build, dark hair and a dark goatee. He was wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt, blue jeans and a tan baseball cap with black lettering.
Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect is encouraged to call Janesville Police at 755-3100 or Janesville Area Crime Stoppers at 756-3636.

That picture doesn't show a guy with a thin build. I'd describe him as average build at best. He's got a paunch and some jowel chub goin' on. Why is it that banks can't have cameras that point a little more at eye level? I know at Blackhawk Credit Union there are signs that say you won't be waited on if you're wearing a hat or sunglasses. I don't know if this would help curb the robberies, but it couldn't hurt. I'm sure this mental midget will slip up soon and spend some good time in the clink.

I always enjoy reading people's comments about topics that they know nothing about other than what they see on tv. The video image that is shown here is obviously zoomed in, and potentially a photo taken of the monitor (see the scan lines), and beleive it our not, the majority of security camera systems in use today do not have the resoloution that your digital camera, or HD television have. The ability to digitally enhance the picture is limited. They still use similar resoloution to your old style analog TV. The cameras you see on "Las Vegas" or "CSI" do exist, but they are just recently becoming affordable for the average business.
It doesn't matter how many cameras a facility has installed, if a robber has cased the facility, he will know where the cameras are ahead of time, and what measures to use to defeat them. If there were cameras installed "at eye level", they can very easily defeat the most sophisticated system by wearing a mask and blocking out their vehicle plates.
Before someone goes there... "hidden" cameras are easily spotted by someone that has done a little research.

I cannot believe the only thing it takes to rob a bank in this city is a note telling someone at a bank that you are demanding money and to give it to you. You don't have to show a weapon or anything else. Unbeleivable!

Dye packs are found here in little ol' Janesville too! Going through a robbery is a scary time, so a teller is told to do exactly what the robber says and to pay close attention to him to assist in helping the police try to find him. It is curious though that the same bank seems to be a target so often!
I hope that those bank employees involved are able to cope with this, as many victims are unable to continue working.

I go to First American Credit Union on Milton Ave. and if I go inside to conduct my business, they have a 4-section split screen on the wall and I can see about 5 different angles of my cute self at any given time. :)

JAYT, I agree with you. Like at Blackhawk credit union, the camera's are right at face level and there is no mistaking about who is making the transaction. It doesn't seem like it is rocket science to have a camera placement that is usable. Hey, lets put a camera up in the corner of the building... brilliant!

Areyoulistening, no bank deserves to be robbed. No teller deserves to be robbed, that’s just like saying a woman is asking to be raped. No one asks for this and regardless of the amount of security/people in the bank, if someone makes the poor choice to rob a bank they are going to do it. I find it amazing that somehow the blame is being placed on the bank not the man who chose commit a federal crime. Someone looking at this picture might recognize his posture or body shape, people go out of their way to avoid the cameras and disguise their faces during a robbery. It’s not like he is going to pose for a close up upon entering the bank. Look at the picture pass it along and lets get the scum in jail where he belongs.

"dye packs are mostly in the movies."
.
Cops is more scripted than you think.
.
A few of the large cities use them in crime ridden areas but they are not widely distributed. =)

areyouevenlistening,I agree.You can get better
pictures and videos on even a cheap cell phone.
With technology the way it is today I find it hard to believe banks dont have better.
And its not just this bank.Every time I see surveillance video its always.cant they get better than that?.

Wow, with all the cameras thats the best shot you could come up with? If you were to put up a better photo I would think you would have a better chance of finding him! Another point is there is a criminal loose in Janesville and we have no idea what he looks like (unless he hasn't changed his clothes or hat!)If this bank only has one camera then it deserves to be robbed! How about some other photos if you are serious about getting this clown!

Dye packs might be used at a bank in an area where robberies are more common. Also, it may not be possible to do depending on how the robbery takes place.
.
Banks would rather have limited security and living employees and customers. The losses are covered by insurance. The shootouts of the Bonnie and Clyde era are the last thing they want to return.

I think I would rather just give them the money and be able to go home to my family at the end of the day. The money can be replaced, lives can't be.

Are you telling me they didn't give him any money with dye packs? I don't know much about robbing banks, but maybe he only got what was in the till?
