JANESVILLE—Lincoln Elementary and Edison Middle schools were locked down for about an hour Friday morning as a precautionary measure as police searched for two suspects on Janesville’s south side.

Deputy Chief Steve Kopp said the incident began with a short pursuit of a suspect vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned.

The school district's Mat Haeger said police called around 8:55 a.m. and advised that Lincoln be locked down. Police called back a short time later to ask that Edison be locked down as well, Haeger said.

School officials were not told the nature of the danger, Haeger said.

The suspects apparently fled on foot. Kopp said at 10:10 a.m. that least one of the suspects had been apprehended, and probably both.

Kopp did not immediately know why the pursuit was initiated.

Edison was released from lockdown at about 9:45 a.m. and Lincoln a short time later, Haeger said.

A letter will be going home to parents to explain what happened, Haeger said.

Pretty sure this article wasn't about "skipping schoool" so I am not sure why the comments are here about that. Omg.

I look forward to the suspects to be held accountable for whatever it was that they did to cause this disruption in the learning process for all these children. It's called consequences, my friend!

You're right br549, when we used to skip school, the authorities just figured our eventual stupidity would be enough punishment.

Does anyone know what the suspects were being chased for? I assume if this was just precautionary and the schools are not on lockdown anymore we don't have to worry about our kids walking home from school? Just want to be cautious!
