Toro Company in Tomah lays off 235
TOMAH, Wis. (AP) — The global recession hits home in Tomah.
The Toro Company is laying off 235 people with hopes of recalling them in the future.
Toro vice president Sandy Meurlot says "these are extraordinary times with conditions we haven't seen in decades."
Toro started a voluntary retirement program last year, froze hiring, eliminated seasonal hiring and all overtime.
Currently, about 650 people work at the plant, which makes turf maintenance equipment for golf courses, sports fields and other properties.

Sadly, more businesses will have to do the same. More layoff news will break soon(like later today).
