Okay. I admit there's a major hole in the argument I'm not making. What?

I've heard tell that government is of, for, and by the people. But maybe it's just a saying.
.
SuperDave, you may as well admit there's a major hole in whatever argument you're now claiming not to have been making anyway.

fmrjvlres: I applauded the actions of the private sector. I said nothing about government being "bad", inherently or not.
I find your love of government, however, to be naive. Methinks perhaps you are a "public" employee. Or perhaps retired one?

SuperDave, my point is that public means government. These spaces are designated by acts of government and maintained with government funding. Spaces like this provide places for events like this Kiwanis fundraiser (which I of course do not object to, I think it's great) or 4th of July Celebrations. It's a positive thing that governments do, especially in the City of Parks. A larger point is that I'm tired of folks who make trite comments like yours that imply that government is inherently bad. It's not inherently good or bad, it's us. The government provides so many services to all of us, services which make it possible to live a relatively safe life in a strong community. What Kiwanis did is great, but to imply that it required no government assistance is naive.

fmrjvlres: The marginal costs involved zero tax money. That's good news - what part of that fact do you object to? Yes, private citizens and organizations use public parks. They are designated for that use, that's why they are called "public" parks. What is your point exactly?

SuperDave - it all happened in a PUBLIC park which is maintained with government funding. I'm sure the city has to approve use of the space, one of the most visible and memorable places in Janesville which people see as they drive over the bridge built and maintained with government money.

Very cool! And it happened voluntarily, with no government involvement.
Thank you Blackhawk Golden Kiwanis!
