From the National Weather Service:

The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan has issued a winter storm watch, which is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

Rain or snow will spread into southern Wisconsin late Saturday afternoon. The precipitation will become heavy and change to snow in most areas by Saturday evening. Lingering cold rain over southeast Wisconsin in the Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha areas should change over to heavy wet snow during the evening. A swath of 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected with the heaviest amounts likely from the Monroe, Janesville, and Elkhorn areas into the Fond du Lac and Sheboygan area.

Less snow is expected west of a line from Darlington to Madison to Berlin on the western edge of the precipitation shield. Only 1 to 4 inches is forecast in that area.

A period of rain and wet snow near lake Michigan will also result in lower snow amounts. East of a line from port Washington to Waukesha to Burlington, 3 to 5 inches of wet snow is forecast later Saturday night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions:

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

HANNAH I totally agree! It is so neat seeing the antiques I have in my house being used as every day things in these movies. I not too long ago came across the book Little House On The Prairie, from way back with pictures, and of course they are sketched, but it was so neat looking at the pictures and seeing crocks, enamelware, bread bowls, churns etc...I just love that stuff, and what facinates me the most is the fact that those things were the livelihood of people. And it breaks my heart to see barns and old houses falling apart and items of the past just sitting in a junk yard rotting away. :(

My Gramps grew some of the most beautiful flower and vegetable gardens that I have ever seen. Reminiscent of the 40's Victory Gardens. He always loved the late season snows for helping his gardens because they(snow) never stuck around long enough to hurt anything and he also called it "Poor Man's Nitrogen".

Optimism: I happened to catch that same showing of the Hepburn film. You might want to also look for a remake of it that starred Harrison Ford. I found it entertaining also.

Well I think we will just get rain but if I am wrong cool. Time to play again and there goes my gas millage. Also the snow is great to bring in nitrogen. I remember planting early peas one year then we got 3in of snow in May. That was the best crop we ever had.

HORNET ~ Thank you so much for such a well thought out post! I have to say I have never seen Airport, therefore, I am going to take your advice and watch it. Even though I am only 36 yrs. old, I LOVE the AMC channel. I just recently watched a movie with Audrey Hepburn in it, ( I can't remember the name...she went off to france to become a chef and then came home and was dating two brothers of the house that her father worked for...oh I think it was Sophia or something...grrrr can't rememeber) and I loved the movie BUT FELL asleep before the end. NOW I MUST rent the movie if I can remember the name. ANyway, thank you.

HANNAH...I AGREE TOTALLY raw onions and xtra cheese is a MUST and NO noodles!!!! I will take your advice and try the corn chips, that does sound good.

"Airport" is a great film! I was probably about 12 when it first came out and saw it at Beloit's Majestic Theater with friends from school. Gosh, I fell instantly in love with Dean Martin that day! (LOL!) Hornet, your posting was fantastic. And, gremmisr, I applaude your creative mind. Stay safe (and warm), everybody!

Hornet - Good one! I remember seeing AIRPORT also...maybe I was high, but what pleased me the most when I saw the
"SNOWPLOW SCENES" was the snowplows were OSHKOSH trucks. That somehow made it all seem real.
4:00 pm on AMC!
I'm there.

Hornet: gotta love Dr. Who. Rose is my favorite companion, that is other than K-9. I have been watching him for years too. First Dr. I saw was Tom Baker, the one with the long scarf and those jelly bellies.
*
How about Blakes 7 or Red Dwarf...ever see those? I think I might just have to see if I can get to the library and borrow a few of the classic Dr.s for the weekend.
*
Please everyone have a safe weekend and before beefer says it SLOW DOWN

Time to cover over the top of those favorite blooming bulbs with plastic boxes, so they won't crumple. Two days of blooming is not enough for a show! If the blooms aren't out of the ground yet, those plants will be fine.

To change the subject:

==GREAT MOVIE FOR A SNOWSTORM NIGHT: "AIRPORT" ON AMC. IT STARTS AT 4PM. GOOD SNOWSTORM/SNOWPLOW SCENES! First watched it at the drive in theater (ok, now you know how young I'm not), during a snow storm. We had to keep turning on the car for heat and to clean off the windshield (no, not in Wisc!). That's about the time gasoline was becoming expensive and rationed.

"AIRPORT 1975" IS ON LATER, THEN "AIRPORT 77", THEN "AIRPORT 79". Quite a night for airport shows!

==For kids, Disney has "Aladdin" and "Mulan" on Sat night, while ABC Family Channel has "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and the "Incredibles". Oh, what to watch?

==No cable? NBC will have World Championships for Figure Skating. I'm sure there will be someone watching BBall...but you already know when and where (hint: CBS)!

==No cable, no antenna, no digital...but have a computer, try www.hulu.com for free full length movies and tv shows...current and oldies! It's a free online video service that offers hit TV shows including Family Guy, 30 Rock, NBA and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, etc. Great fun! Price is right! Never watched www.YouTube.com videos? Why not watch the funny pet shows. They're always funny (as long as the animals don't get hurt).

==Don't forget to remove the coverings for those bulbs!

==Oh, what will I be watching? About 8:30ish the second half of the Cyberman/parallel world show with Rose and Mickey on Doctor Who (WHA-TV). Been watching this series since the 1970's! Of course, he's also on BBC America earlier in the evening at 6! (Pompeii is about to blow!)

It's supposed to be 47 on Sunday and Monday, we may get a lot of snow but it won't hang around for long. It would be worse if it were only November....

I will get the fireplace ready, take the kids to the library and get some great movies to watch and enjoy the beauty of what comes our way. We are right smack dab in the middle of this line. Between Monroe and Beloit. So, I do believe we are going to get hit. There is not reason to get upset about it, can't do anything about it, so we may as well make the most of it. Heavy wet snow makes great snow men too and the kids always like that! (honestly, I am sad this is happening, my babies (flowers) have popped, and I am so sad they are going to get hit....but I have to think positive right??) :o)

I thought it was interesting that two of the lead stories were about a winter storm warning and that free sand and sand bags were available for flooded areas. Was an extra month added where heavy rain and snow falls within a week of each other is normal? Perhaps it could be called Smarch.
