Concerns about crowds at Corvina's

From the WCLO newsroom:

A tavern in downtown Janesville is proving so popular, the bar was recently exceeding its capacity limit.

Corvina's bar manager TK Jonen says they keep strict head counts now, with patrons waiting in lines outside until there's enough room inside.

But the long lines have also created problems, according to Deputy Police Chief Steve Kopp. He says a traffic accident occurred near the bar recently, and police had to work crowd control. The two vehicles involved in the accident left the scene before police could get to them.

Overcrowding can also create a safety hazard. If Corvina's, or any tavern, is packed full of people someone could be injured trying to escape out of the building, according to Gale Price, Manager of Building and Development Services for the city. The owners of Corvina's are working with Price to increase the capacity limit to 130, instead of the current 99 capacity.

Hannah - I understand the economy is in a recession; however, if you have "lots of time to read and blog" I hope for your employers sake you are not on the time clock as I'm sure they could find a more productive employee during this time that Rock County has the highest unemployment rate in the state of Wisconsin.

Well, I will say I have gone to that bar a couple times. Most of the crowd that hangs there are looking for a fight and there are many drug dealers and many gang members. Yes, it's the new Spanky's for sure. A friend of mine is quite upset with me because I won't go there. She accused me of being racist. It has nothing to do with skin color, it has to do with the fighting. Apparently "the bottles fly" there often. I am sure it will be shut down sooner or later. The owner better save his money, because being excited about having a bar that attracks trouble is a disaster waiting to happen!

Too bad we can't get our legislators to take advantage of this and raise that beer tax ... I heard it would cost somebody who consumes six beers daily just $1 a week. The money is badly needed to pay for treatment options.

All bars downtown are crowded at different times. And I love how people are freaking out about people standing/waiting outside creating a scene~ what do you think every bar in town is going to look like when the smoking ban is set in stone?
And is it just me, or does this hannah seem to know everything about everything in this town? I swear she's always complaining..
Ohyah, Have a nice day. :)

But then again Snazzy you are one of those typical Americans that think everything else makes their children bad, and its not thier own parenting skills that are sub par. Its the video games that do it. Not the fact I don't take my kid out and play ball with them. Its the fact that he hung out with jonny that got him on drugs. Not the fact that you fail to have your child come home at a reasonable time so they don't have the time to get introuble. Everyone is just turning to the gov. to make the choices for themselfs of what is right and wrong. and before you know it we wont have any chance to make your own choice.

Oh and Snazzy your right THC makes you WAY lazy. Thats why Michael Phelps does it and he is real lazy....I mean he is only the best athlete ever.
I think that the kids that are lazy are only following in their parents footsteps. I mean look in the mirror before you start to become the pot thats calling the kettle black.

Snazzy before you get all mad and start calling people names. Why don't you take a minute and get high so you can calm down enough to read what I said.. Ididn't say ANYTHING about smoking anything. I said use THC. IF you can go to google I am sure you can figure out that their is more then one way to use THC. Its called eating it. Or then there are vaporizors too that don't use smoke... But then again I forgot you drunks know it all. Thats why how many of you die each day from drinking to much? ANd how many of us pot heads die from using to much THC???

CITY OF JANESVILLE

How many people died from Alcohol poisoning/overdose this year alone?

How many people have died from THC overdose in the past 100years...

The Craig school district teachers, tell you THC is illegal because it harms you. Yet where are the deaths? On the other hand of drinking, I bet everyone that is reading this story can think of someoone that past away from drinking to much one night...

So what do EVERYONE of you do...GO RIGHT BACK TO THE BAR where your dad or brother drank him self to death, or maybe the bar right next door to it now.

Don't you love this world?

Have nice day :)

yeah, I know the woman who runs this place...witches and d&d is not my style...she and her kid have snakes in their apt. and she creeps me out. oh well, I won't be patronizing her business...let them stand in a line outside. Doesn't affect me in the least...and keeps the freaks out of my way at the bars where I enjoy "tossing back a few". Bonus!

So this is why the city of Janesville wisconsin wants to start surving alchohol at the Kids ice areana. To releave the stress from all the drinking that is going on down town! Well I know we can say one thing good about GM laying all of you off. It sure did boost the economy of Drinking/Bars.. Keep up the good work Janesville. Cause if it wasn't for you we wouldn't be where we are today... :)

hannah, you have to understand when you accuse someone of a crime, that can be libel. Down the page it says "Do not libel anyone."
.
gwendt, yes, that is a concept frequently known as "downtown". The council has been reluctant to allow new liquor licenses in this area, though.

I can't say i'm surprised. The last time i was in that bar, it was beyond packed. It took over 10 minutes to get a beer.

Also, the place is slowly starting to become the new Spanky's.

Yes Corvinas is on Parker next to Wiggys but there on the corner. In the area is
Wiggy
Corvinas
Time Out
Looking Glass
Legends
Quotes
Main Street
and another one not sure of its name?
plus a few restauraunts than if you cross the bridge you have a few.
Hannah Looking Glass that you refrered to is not like that anymore. All bars on Friday Sat night have crowding issues and they do keep count. And when it comes to problems at bars it just gets passed from one bar to another there will always be problems so why are we commenting on this.

isn't this bar near Wiggy's? holy cow - must be 6-7 bars in a 2 block area? 5? maybe Janesville should be named Alcohol Junction, (joking)

OOPS I should ammend my comment to knowing the woman who owns the name 'Corvina' and runs it~~not the couple who own the physical location (which by a weird twist of fate, I know also1)

Looking Glass is less crowded now and has been great since adding the beer garden outside. Plus looking glass has several exits (front, back, and through the kitche). the time I was in corvinas I only saw one.

As the owner is a woman, but the man is still involved in all processes of this business (LLC). They rent from the landlord which is true, but it is ran primarily by the man and woman.

I don't think the Looking Glass has had an over crowding problem in a while. There are also signs now saying that dancing on the bar is not allowed.

I know the owner and he just bought and "recreated" the seen for their patrons. He is very excited about its popularity, but he also has concerns about the crowding and is working hard with city officials and the police department to try and solve it. It is a great club and I hope everybody experiences that.
