The left southbound passing lane of Interestate 90/39 is now open, according to Hal Mayer, Rock County Public Works Department highway superintendent.

A one-quarter-mile pavement failure partially blocked the lane on I-90/39 near Edgerton on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The failure was reported at 2:08 p.m. near Highway 59, the release said. The State Patrol encourages southbound drivers to exit at Highway 51, drive south to Highway 59, turn left and return to the Interstate on the Highway 59 onramp.

Hannah, no they're not done with the tollway construction yet. They're doing the northbound lanes this summer. Traffic flows pretty well though.

"Good thing there isn't any form of public transportation, like light rail, in this area between here and Madison. They should just build another lane of highway, or maybe 2 more lanes, to use in situations like this. That has to cost way less to build and maintain than any kind of public transportation, like light rail. I mean how much more efficient and cost effective would it be to have a light rail service instead of dealing with traffic, accidents and road repairs."

One sentence you say it costs less to have one or two lanes that it does light rail; the next sentence you think it's cheaper to have light rail than roads. I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

This same section was repaired last summer (for the same reason on both lanes). It helps to know the back roads. You don't have to drive all the way into downtown Edgerton.

this is why you don't use concrete for roads in Wisconsin, not enough room for it to expand and contract in the winter season.

"Pavement Failure". What public relations genius came up with this government-speak for a hole or bump in the road?

Wasnt that section of interstate between Janesville and Madison redone not long ago? Maybe 10 years?
How often are interestate roads typically replaced?

The drive from Madison to Janesville during rush hour was horrible yesterday due to this lane being closed. I sure hope they open it this afternoon!!

um.....yah know, it is Memorial Weekend.
Gas pri$es are up and its Click-it-or-Ticket push. Thousands of out-of-state travelers shall unfold upon us. Some intoxicated and weaving in and out of trafic like OMG! ( I know, I have seen em'.)
When they test concret; via stress tests. It reveals just how much patience the Wis. drivers can stand with the take the lowest bidder to do road work/infrastructure.
I am so glad to see after all the redoing of the roads, how short and sweet that my tax dollars actually makes a diffrence. NOT!
I'll agree with spikeSterz; fill-it up/ (exspletive ignored here)-It, and lets drive...

I-90 is in terrible shape between JVL and Madison anyway. They don't need to overthink what they have to do. Fill it in with something and reopen it.

Testing for what? Swine flu? Just dump some new concrete in the hole and move on!
