Man gets prison in cocaine case
A Janesville man was sentenced to 60 months in prison Thursday for conspiracy to distribute cocaine, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Joseph “Pookie” Hughes was involved in a crack-cocaine distribution conspiracy with three other people for four days in December 2006, according to the release.
A grand jury indicted Hughes in January, and he pleaded guilty to the charge in March, according to the release.
Three co-conspirators—Jennifer Hanthorn, John Dunn and Jerome Hughes—were prosecuted previously. Jerome Hughes is serving a 40-year prison term, Dunn 10 years and Hanthorn 46 months, according to the release.
The case was a result of work by the Rock County Safe Streets Task Force, which includes state and federal agencies along with the Janesville and Beloit police departments and Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
