Local 95 ratifies agreement

An overwhelming majority of United Auto Workers Local 95 members who cast ballots Wednesday supported a new contract agreement between the UAW and General Motors.

Andy Richardson, Local 95 president, said 84 percent of those voting supported the deal that makes modifications to the national contract inked by the parties in 2007.

Richardson said the vote total should send a strong message that the Janesville plant and its members are concerned about the well-being of the company. It also should put the local plant in a good position to lobby for the production of small cars that GM has said it will commit to one of its idled U.S. facilities.

I figured the Gazette would remove my comment for speaking the the truth; If you didn't work at the plant, you weren't worth spit in this town. WE LSI, TNT, CTI employees PAID OUR DUES to the UAW and never got the same representation as the GM employees. Go to Mexico GM.

jimbofish - Let's plan a GM retiree outing to go shopping at the new Wall Mart and Sam's Club in Janesville. They only sell American made products and they provide their employees with wages and benefits comparable to GM (before GM closed the Janesville plant).

NeoBartley..... well written. to the haters who post the comments on here, i laugh more often than not. a lot of facts misstated. a lot of amounts incorrect. how many jobs in this area were lost when GM went out? How many others were lost because of THEM? also, how many know that a lot of the transplants have been asking their own governments for money to get by? why not here...... because they do not have the amount of faithful retirees we do. give them 10 years and they will be in the same boat.

Big Bro, not one of your past posts have had any facts or viable information to add to the discussion. you seem to be one of those who enjoy to bash others, and especially every story that comes out about GM. Save us all your pathetic negitive rambling and quit posting until you have something worth a crap to say.

I've never have seen a community that takes so much pleasure is seeing lives of fellow citizens turned upside down. Some of you it seem love China more than your own country. If you like them so much why don't you go to work for a Chinese company for little compensation. Go live in a land where the Government doesn't care what your living condition are like or what the environmental impact of industrial pollution is. Keep signing their praises, but you better not whine when your beloved family pet dies from tainted food, or your child has developmental problems from chewing the lead paint off the toys you so proudly buy from China Keep on supporting those countries that have forced child labor. The problem is with some of you is that you don't realize what the American labor movement did to improve your lives. Are you people so miserable with your own lives that you actually feel better by showing so much happiness at the misfortunes of others? As Americans, you want to be respected by other countries, but yet you can't even respect the people in your own community. God help your soul.

Will this agreement impact any retiree benefits? How about the bondholder's agreement? Will the retiree benefits change?

It's too bad that all of those GM bashers are so selfish and jealous. I always believed that everybody should receive decent health care and wages. At least livable monies. I never begrudged people making good wages. I always thought we should all work together for the betterment of everybody, but some people have that mindset that if they arn't receiving good wages then nobody should. It's too bad! People just want to have a decent wage. With inflation, taxes and everything else going up, the fat cats at the top should be ashamed of themselves; in particular, for being so selfish.

NEO: Nicely written! But these substandard people will still "NOT" get the message that we send, caught up in their own self worthlessness, but still hard not to feel compassion for their lack of.

mytake4u: Thanks for your compassion. I don't know why you think the workers got what they deserved...I know this affects my family and I would sure hope that my husband didn't deserve to lose his job...I can't imagine with him going to work on a daily basis he did anything to deserve this.

That is quite a bold statement to say the workers got what they deserved. I'm sure one day you will get what you deserve.....because you sure don't sound like a very compassionate person. And when that happens to you...I hope people are around to say....Good, you deserved it. Have a heart!!!

All looks fine in Kansas now to the nay sayers of GM. To this I say Apathy must be blissful.
Memories are so short. Intelegence falls short by the waysides of disgruntledness.
Poor poor GM-Haters. The looming dominoe effect shall show its ugly face soon. Then too so shall the demise of many more of the area business suffer. Yes, even those nay-sayer's jobs, wages and well beings.
If noboy can buy YOUR stuff?( ruffly 600,000+ folks); Your job is in jepordy as well.
Hows that worded, Bite The Hand That Feeds You?
I also believe in what Mamma told me when I was a little boy, learning the true ways and flow of life; If yah cant say nothing nice? Fill in the next line for me guys.
Heres one you forgot; You'll reap Your harvest nay-sayers. And then You will bash GM for your downfalls again. The Not-so-Human mind of those few; is baffeling.
Watch the market folks. If the restructuring occurs? Do you believe we are only looking out for ourselves? Do we not take into consideration even those nay-sayers when we attempt to gain what is good, truth and right for the area? And just shake our heads at those whom desire to see sufferage, pain and fiscal depression?
I know thousands whom would even turn the cheek and help the lost souls of evil people such as yourselves in YOUR time(s) of need.
To the ungreatful I say; Thank you for your support of those in your community. You words of hate and unsupport have given new rise to old exstinct aditudes. I wish you well in the very near future. For You. For your families. For your connected in ways Your blind to the whole picture friends. I do wish you well.

Great news! I look forward to the announcement of GM NEVER coming back to Janesville. Do we know exactly what line they will be building somewhere else? Hopefully, they will be able to hire everyone back and get some other city going again! Too bad J-town is finished. :(
