Madison man charged with assaulting disabled woman

MADISON — A Madison felon is charged with sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman after allegedly luring her to his apartment.

Darrell Bracey Sr., 51, was charged Friday with two counts of second-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors say he met the 50-year-old woman at a bus stop in August and invited her to watch movies with him.

The woman told investigators she thought she’d met a new friend. But she said once they got back to his apartment, he began taking her clothes off and touching her. She left and called police.

Bracey denies bringing her home. He said she probably knew details about where he lived because he’s a "people person."

The woman’s case worker says the woman has cerebral palsy, mild mental retardation and epilepsy.

A comment like Mark Twains is so purposely meant to piss people off that the best response to someone like that is "no response." He can't insult and aggrevate people who are unwilling to acknowledge him, and that eventually makes him powerless.

1. The criminal in this story is most likely in jail where he cannot hurt another disabled person.
2. The criminal in this story most likely does not read this comment section.
3. Therefore, commenting about him can do no good.

1. MarkTwain stated that he currently works with disabled people and could hurt them with his lack of compassion and his insults.
2. MarkTwain obviously reads this comment section.
3. Therefore, writing about his rude comment could cause him to reconsider his attitude towards the disabled and could do some good. (Doubtful, but possible,at least more possible than impacting the criminal from the story!)

Shopiere, personally, I wasn't offended. We're on the same side, man. That's why I asked for clarification because it could've been taken the other way-- you blog on the Gazette enough to know that people DO take things out of context.

If you are unable to understand, I will try to clarify. I didn't think I was vague about anything.

The fact of the matter is, a violent felon was given a slap on the wrist for many of his crimes. Finally, he was given some much needed prison time, which obviously was not enough. he was released, a few months later he is accused of committing a violent sex crime against a handicapped person.

My point, if it still eludes anyone, is that the violent sociopath who committed the crime should not have been loose to do this.

As far as WORDS go, if you are OFFENDED by mere words, while virtually ignoring the real criminal, you might need to re-assess your priorities. What was the saying about not seeing the forest for the trees?

If anyone is still unable to understand me, I can do nothing further for you.

I think what shopier is saying is that we are making comments on what mark twain said and we should be commenting more on this sick guy who did this to that Lady. What mark twain said tho was rude and he was plaiming the victim also, that comment was very uncalled for. Shopier just doesn't have a clue.

Shopiere, can you just clarify what you mean? Are you sitting the fence in this? Or are you siding with a felon that knew what he was doing? He appears to know what he is doing with all the restraining orders. He apparently does not know how to leave people alone.

prevention: It is very sad, but that is typical action by Rock County. First, it was the psych hospital, then detox, now DD programs. Rock Haven might be next in line. I don't understand why the Board of Supervisors never seems to even discuss these changes, but, rather just follows a budget recommendation for the cuts.

There is a lot of complaints about what a poster on this blog said.

There is not much comment about a felon, a sociopath who has apparently been out of prison only a few months preying on someone who is handicapped.

I guess "offensive" words must be much worse than the acts of violent felons, at least in the eyes of some. Very sad indeed.

So, in other words, if he's a danger to society, to "normal" people, how is it that he is only a danger to those that are vulnerable?

Mark_Twain may want to rethink their position after review CCAP

May I add an article from this last week that I commented on:
http://gazettextra.com/news/2009/nov/05/...
“What isn't readily discussed is that the DD Board forces one agency to close 4 of its 8 programs serving adults with disabilities in Rock County.
Why? The Board stated it was for financial reasons. What happened? The clients and guardians got no say in what happened to these clients. They were forced to move into a setting that they have already began to exhibit negative signs such as decompensation- extremely agressive behaviors, picking so bad they get sores, etc. Why? The clients are nervous and scared because they felt safe and supported. Now, they are forced to live in the community with MUCH LESS support than they need.
Why these actions by the clients? Because the DD Board wanted to cut costs without concerns to the welfare of the clients. What happened to caring for the clients in the least restrictive, most secure environment for them?
CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES! ADVOCATE FOR THIS POPULATION THAT NEEDS YOUR HELP!”

FYI: there will be more cases like that in Rock County, specifically Janesville. Did you know that the DD Board shut down 4 of 8 programs in one agency here in Janesville? There was no input from the clients, guardians. Rather than move then into a less expensive setting with the same safeguards, security, and staffing patterns, they have been placed into settings, by the DD Board, that are allowing them to decompensate because they are afraid of their lack of support. A couple clients have been placed in apartments, without their needed 24/7 staffing, with sexual predators.

Do something!

You are the scum of the earth mr. twain. You must feel really good about yourself right now. My sister runs an adult family home and has two disabled men living there. One is autistic and 62 years old and the other is mentally challenged with no fingers as he walked out in 30 below weather and got frostbite. So I personally know people such as this and I also worked at Jackson House when it first opened. I think I remember a Mark Twain being admitted there in 2004, was it you?

VERY SAD!

My biggest question as I read Mark Twain's response... What kind of "therapeutic" setting is it? It sounds like it's "therapeutic" in that it supports sick bastards that prey on the vulnerable.

Yes, I DO agree with what BostonBill said in regards to Mark Twain. What kind of agency do you work with? It sounds like one that the State won't license as a home.

I have been in a situation that I worked with a staff person that sexually abused a client right before our eyes. He was so slick that he conned her into not saying anything until she was about to explode. I love that she told someone she trusted! Kudos to this client!!

Now, I tell my current clients to tell the people they feel most comfortable with when they feel they've been violated in ANY way. I encourage them to talk to someone about things that are bothering them. I tell them they need to tell someone, even if it is me that may have offended them by a comment. I know they have followed through on this because we talk about it at regular staff meetings.

I encourage them so that the person offending them can change or leave the field of caregiving.

mark_twain: Prove me wrong. I don’t believe that you work with developmentally disabled people. If you do, the authorities should be alerted. Your statements show that you have a total lack of compassion for people. This statement, “If you want to help people like her let’s bring back protective custody and commitment to a mental health facility.” shows that you have some problems of your own.
