Beloit Memorial Hospital and Beloit Clinic will soon formalize a partnership as Beloit Health System.

Beginning Jan. 1, the 1,109 employees of the hospital and 360 employees of Beloit Clinic will be part of Beloit Health System. In addition, there are 110 primary and specialty physicians who will be partners in this new integrated delivery system.

Officials said the hospital and clinic will strive to deliver the highest quality medical services and improve the overall health status of the community. These goals will be met while maintaining an economic value and the highest level of patient satisfaction, they said.

Beloit Health System will be a not-for-profit business entity.

I believe that there is good and bad experiences at any health facility in any city not just Beloit

I can only speak of my experience having worked at both hospitals. My son was very ill when he was young. I live in Janesville and wanted to get him care immediately we went to Mercy. They sent him home with a fever of 103. We were up all night long the next morning I took him to Beloit (I worked there at the time) He was admitted for 4 days with a Roto viris. The care he got there was second to none. To me that speaks volumes. He walked out on his own, and not in a body bag. Just one case I know but something like that sticks with you for years.

SarahB1, it was very clear that Mercy was hing all their physicians and ceasing contracted ER physicians. Some of the physicians in The ER group did not want to leave their 'group', and the group quit as a group not the individual physicians. I personally know 2 of the physicians who were forced to work at BMH because of this and were very unhappy after many years of practice at Mercy. It is much better when a hospital employs the workers instead of contracting them out *(as was the case in Beloit last I checked) Any hospital who uses contract physicians has little to no control of which physicians work in the ER and who is hired, how they are paid etc.

I'm actually really glad to hear this. I have lived in Janesville, and as a life long patron of the "Beloit Health System," (Being born in the hospital and having continued health care at the clinic)I have always been a supporter and frankly, an advocate for the system. Too many friends and family members have had less than mediocre health care at Mercy. I just hope this merge and title does not change the quality they've so well sustained. Although, I don't feel that it will, if anything it will make it better.
SarahB1, I agree, I'd like to know that as well. My own mother who has given birth at BOTH hospitals can give you personal experience as to who gave more compassionate care. It seems all Mercy cares about is the money, where as Beloit cares if the patients are comfortable and safe.

I prefer Beloit's hospital. Always have and always will. JB23: Can you tell me which physicians came to Beloit after being "fired" from Mercy? Physicians are rarely "fired" from anywhere it seems. I do know that many years ago, all of Mercy's ER doctors quit as a group and signed on at Beloit's ER. They were welcomed with open arms and did a great job.

Thank you, Becca the blogger, for your opinion. I have personally know too many people at Mercy that have died from their care. True, there are good, but I've also had care that was well lower than subpar with Mercy. Hence the reason I returned to my doctors in Beloit's new Health System.

All hospitals/health care systems have their problems but I do know in the past beloit has hired some physicans who were fired from mercy and as far as personal experience beloit has not been a good one for MANY of my family members!

Food for thought...

50% of doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class.

I think Beloit has a bad reputation. Mercy is the best health system around. There physicians are outstanding and they have so many specialists right there in Janesville. Janesville is so lucky to have Mercy!

luvinlife: you qoute a statistic but you don't have all of the facts that go with it. How about the fact that Beloit's demographics regarding the race of people and poverty levels. It is a fact that certain ethinic people do not go to the doctor right away and prolong a potential disease until it is gone way past the time to even hope on a positive outcome. And it is also a known fact that when you don't have insurance or income to pay for the dr's appointment or medicines that you go to the dr's only when you are taken there after someone calls for an ambulance. Looking at 1 statistic is misleading but reiterating it as the whole truth is ignorant. Look at all the facts not just what you what to "qoute to make it sound as though you know what is going on at Beloit". I do know what is going on and this has been being talked about for a few years...even before Dean's decided to build in Janesville.

I'd choose Beloit over Mercy anyday. Mercy is the worst hospital around. In an emergency, I'd rather die on the way to Beloit or Madison than go to Mercy just to have them kill me anyway.

They walk out with morticians. Isn't that a good thing, if morticians are getting the care they need there?
I recommend Dr. Nader Salti if you have any gastro intestinal surgery!

yes luvinlife, treat their employees and patients better but patents walk out with morticians more often. Fair trade.

I would be a patient at Beloit Hospital any day. They treat their employees like people. In turn these people treat their patients better. This is a concept that Mercy will never get a grasp on.

Look it up at Medicare.gov. Beloit hospital tends to have lower patient outcomes and better patient satisfaction, while Mercy has better outcomes and worse patient satisfaction. So you can go where you get crappy care and be happy about it, or walk out of the hospital ticked off.

Every hospital makes mistakes. It has been a few years since we heard of surgical implements being left in someone.

Well, not to point out any specifics, but when my Mom, who was already in the hospital for a heart attack complained of chest pains, they gave her a pain reliever and sent her to bed. The doctor was never notified until the following day. Between that and the the stroke that followed, it did all the damage it needed to.

And just on what, totellthetruth, do you base your accusation that "...they do a pretty average job as far as hospitals go with a fair share of mistakes."

"Officials said the hospital and clinic will strive to deliver the highest quality medical services and improve the overall health status of the community." - because they don't plan to succeed at it? Actually they do a pretty average job as far as hospitals go with a fair share of mistakes. Why now..."This is being forced because of the increase of Dean's presence in Janesville places a threat to the integrity of both systems." (What you won't see published anywhere)
