Hunter found dead west of Janesville
JANESVILLE TOWNSHIP -- A missing deer hunter was found dead Sunday in a wooded area west of Janesville.
The hunter was reported missing at 12:58 p.m. Sunday after family members had not seen the hunter since Friday night, Rock County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kerry Schlittler said.
Family members said the hunter had gone out alone Saturday, he said.
Rock County and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources officials searched land along Fitzsimmons Road and Graham Drive off Highway 14, Schlittler said.
A vehicle registered to the hunter was located in the area, he said, and searchers found the hunter at 2:08 p.m.
The cause of death remains under investigation until an autopsy can be done Monday in Madison, Schlittler said.
The hunter’s name wasn’t released because family members haven’t been notified of the death, he said.

I agree toasty. When I recieved a call from a mutual friend last night telling me of this tragedy, my heart sank in sadness for Becky and the 3 kids. What a tragic event. As for the Gazette feeling our comments may reveal who he is well.....Out of respect for the Kealy family I will just say "So be it".

Jnvlhtr - Its a shame that Gazette had to censor our comments that did not reveal any names to identify someone we both knew. We both honored the wishes of the family while wishing for a prayer of thought. To me and being in the journalism field, I followed the guidelines and thought the Gazette was very unprofessional in striking my comment for no reason. I found out about this tradegedy on my way home from hunting and the first thing I thought of was his children. My heart feels so bad for them. He was a good guy who loved good times, hunting, fishing and his children.

I did not reveal his name in my original post and only spoke of his love of fishing, hunting and his 3 children (no names of the kids). That covers probably 70% of the population. This is not the place to debate this, it is about a tragic loss and a family that will be suffering for long time to come.

I agree with you Scot,if the family is requesting that his name be held you grant that wish. Some people don't have a clue they are simply nosey and need to wake up and let the Gazette do their jobs.It is a horrible tragedy and we can only wish the family the best in dealing with this.

We were asked by the family Sunday night not to release the name because not all family members had been notified. We honored the family's wishes and took down comments that we thought went too far in identifying the man.
Now, Channel 3 has identified the man, putting us in a difficult position.
We did what we thought was best - respecting the family's wishes. If that makes us an "outfit that does not have a good name," as indicated by jnvlhtr, so be it.
We will report the man's name when we believe it is appropriate.

Toasty2k, they did the same to me however I see that cmp4001 has his name and has not been removed. This is why this outfit does not have a good name in the Rock County area.

To the Gazette staff:
I would like an explanation for why my comment was removed. I said nothing wrong, indicated no name due to the fact not all the family was notified. I am an experienced journalist and would like to know what rule I broke in regards to my friend.
Thank you.

This is sad, even moreso if he was a young father. My condolences to his family and friends.
