MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Monroe County health officials are reporting a death related to the swine flu.

No details of the death were released by the county, but WXOW-TV in La Crosse reported the victim was a young child.

Monroe County health officer Sharon Nelson says the H1N1 flu can be especially dangerous for young children, individuals with compromised immune systems and those with chronic health illnesses.

Swine flu cases have now been reported in 52 of Wisconsin's 72 counties and led to 26 hospitalizations since Sept. 1. The swine flu has led to two deaths this fall, including the latest, and nine this year.

Wisconsin has received about 213,000 doses of flu vaccine since Oct. 9. The initial shipments went to larger hospitals, clinic systems and public health agencies so they could begin to vaccinate health care workers.

Lost_city~ The flu vaccine is available WITHOUT the heavy metals..just ask for the thimerasol free vaccine.

Vaccination helps the immune system by launching a response to the vaccine. This helps the B Cells (or memory cells) remember the virus. This helps the body to respond faster if you do contract the virus because it recognizes the virus, so the body's white blood cells can take out the virus before it overwhelms the body.

Just remember the nasal vaccine is an attenuated or weakened but live vaccine. This carries a small chance of contracting the virus.

Janesvillean, you've clearly only read the publicity from the CDC and pharmaceutical companies rather than the actual studies on environmental contamination, including heavy metals from vaccines. Also, newer research has shown that flu shots are ineffective in the most vulnerable groups, and that the at-risk children who'd had the flu shot died of the seasonal flu at a higher rate than those they were matched with who hadn't had the shot. An interesting article about the recent research on flu vaccines can be found here: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200911/br...

Listen, flu shots do NOT cause autism. That's a false correlation that desperate parents have drawn, but many studies have shown otherwise. Autism is simply being diagnosed more commonly than in the past. That has nothing to do with the swine or seasonal flu shots which have been around for decades. In other words, you're not helping.

So are you all still against getting a flu shot for your children. My thoughts go out to this family.
Get your children the flu shot. It would be better to live with a child with autism then to lose one to a preventable sickness.
I understand that living with a child with autism would be hard, but it is better than the other result.
