US elections official to visit Wisconsin
MADISON — A top federal elections official will be in Wisconsin this week for two days of meetings with state and local officials.
Gineen Beach, who chairs the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, will speak to a statewide election advisory group on Monday and meet with legislative leaders and Gov. Jim Doyle.
Aides say she wants to learn how federal money in the Help America Vote Act helps local elections. Wisconsin has received $50 million from the act since 2004.
Beach was appointed to the four-member commission by President George W. Bush last year, and is serving as its chair in 2009.

You can't issue free ID's! The Democrats would lose a lot of votes if people had to prove they were a citizen.

Regardless of what your opinion of ACORN might be, the Help America Vote Act has nothing to do with them. It was passed overwhelmingly by Congress in 2002 as a response to the ballot-counting problems in Florida in the 2000 election. Key provisions include setting federal standards for voting machines and helping states and local governments meet them, requiring positive identification for voters, allowing for provisional voting in circumstances where appropriate, and making sure that the disabled, young people and the military have equal access to voting privileges.

What is interesting is that the article of 09/29/08 states; "Nearly all of those submitted were workers for the Community Voters Project or ACORN."
The website mentions many thousands of fraudulent votes in just Milwaukee. The stench of the criminal organization Acorn is always there, isn't it?

How about spending that $50 million on free voter id's? As far as helping the handicap vote, aren't all public buildings where we vote handicap accessable? Our voting machines look okay to me. Other than the high priced salaries paid to this committee and their travel bills I wonder where the money went?
My problem is that every time the government spends money on a project the hands are out for their cut on the way up and the way down. If only our taxes were spent on what they were meant to be spent on.

RetiredAirForce: I would like to see the stats and demographics on who in Wisconsin is "double- and triple-dipping" on welfare and doing the same with their votes. I know there was recently a figure re: those on probation/parole casting votes in Wisconsin. I was shocked that the the figure cited was under 1,000 yet can't remember exact number. However, I also believe those on probation/parole (and those imprisoned) should be allowed to vote. On another note, I am not against showing a photo ID to vote, but I think these IDs should be issued free.

kay5, would you like to cite your evidence behind this massive burden on us by "double, triple dipping welfare? We should be wise to such BS by now: Reagan used the same canard 40 years ago with the 12-dip "welfare queen"(black of course, very black, fat of course, laughing af course), which was a total lie, revealed only AFTER his election. And the real reason for being anti ACORN is NOT the few snots who misused their trust, but the massive SUCCESS of the program in helping people vote who would be otherwise unable, a problem not faced by the rich. And these newly enfranchised do not goose-step to the corporate-party line like your Grassleys, McConnells, Boehners, Paul Ryans, Fox News, etc ad nauseum would prefer.

The Help America Vote Act helps buy newer voting machines, and provide access to the disabled, among other things.

Well duh, its help them cheat. Acorn, payoffs and no ID. What you get is fraud. You will note that its the dems who knocked down the voter ID bill. Its amazing how they can say its too hard on the poor. Well, they sure manage to get their double, triple dipping welfare so I suppose they think they should be "entitled" to vote more than once too.
