Green Bay mayor seeks ideas for No. 4's homecoming
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Brett Favre is coming back to play in Green Bay Nov. 1, and the city's mayor is asking Packers fans to suggest ways to mark the quarterback's dubious homecoming with the archrival Minnesota Vikings.
According to the city's Web site, Mayor Jim Schmitt is asking fans to send in ideas to "tastefully" welcome Favre back and he'll select his top four favorite ideas. The site says one early suggestion is to create the world's largest No. 4 waffle, a playful jab at Favre's indecisive approach to retirement.
One Packers blog, cheeseheadtv.com, already has weighed in with a list of suggestions to mark the occasion. Among them: creating a video montage of Favre's interceptions and showing it before the game.

The last thing Favre needs is to have his ego stroked some more. I don't think there should be any special attention to him. He's a Viking. Treat him as such.

Who cares about Brett any more. It is time to worry about the O.L. in front of Rodgers.

I think Favre's homecoming should be much like Joe Crede's first game back in Chicago where he spent 9 years before signing with Minnesota. Joe got a very nice ovation thanking him for all he did to bring Chicago a championship in 2005... then they boo'd the crap out of him after he homered. I suggest you welcome Brett nicely, then boo him after he throws his first touchdown.

I dont think the packers should do anything fancy just give him a mention at half time and Thank him for all his years of service and be done with it. All the boo birds will be at the game let them do the rest. Farve fans will welcome him and the fanatics will boo him so there will be a mix of emotions.

Gilly, my point was would the Packers have won the Super Bowl in 1996. I doubt Bart Starr could have came back in '96. That's like Favre coming back in 2025 ... hmmm

I think 87 has it right: A standing ovation would be the best way to demonstrate good sportsmanship.

Maybe Ted Thompson can invite Favre over for dinner. A good home cooked meal with Teddy and his mommy would be perfect. Maybe some of those great O linemen that he never resigned could join them!

I think it would be a bit embarrassing for the Packers to show all his interceptions as most of them happened as a Packer.. or are you going to replay the TWO he has thrown as a Viking? Maybe you should show his highlights as a "thank you" for everything he did for Wisconsin. Do you think the Packers would have a Super Bowl championship w/o Favre? I don't think so. Torii Hunter played w/ the Twins for 12 years then went to the Angels, know what he got his first game back? A standing ovation, and Brett deserves the same.

So I wonder if he will try jumping into the stands when he throws his first touchdown pass at Lambeau as a Viking?

Brett got plenty of love, honor, and praise an appreciation as a Packer. People idolized him. I think that is part of the problem. He was shown much gratitude as a Packer and I even cheered him on as a Jets. He could have continued to play for the Jets, he chose to 'retire' from the Jets, and then they released him. He knew damn well what he was doing. I lost a lot of respect for him and what he has done for the Green Bay Packer's when he signed with the Vikings. He is now a defender, a opponent and should be treated like one. Like I said silence would be best.

How about thanking him for all the great years that he gave the team and the Packer fans with a classy tribute of some kind. Sometimes I'm ashamed of being a Packer fan. It's pure idiocy to act like buffoons when he comes back. He has every right to play anywhere he wants to if the Packers don't want him. Let's not act like hicktown, USA.

I swear, there could be a story about a group of school children working in a soup kitchen at Christmas, and Pete would comment about how the taxpayers probably had to fund it even though businesses are closing. Doom and gloom no matter what the topic. What a sad way to live.

I think Green Bay should Thank Brett Favre for all the money he brought to Green Bay for 16 years. Why does everyone have to be so bitter now days, if you are mad at anyone, be mad at Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy. Brett is a very talented player and I for one think he should be honored.

How about this: perhaps his retiring was all a ploy to play elsewhere?
What would you do for $25 million dollars? You could laugh at me too if you paid me that kind of money.
Bobb1951 is correct, TT and MM are responsible for there being a purple #4 to resent. If they did not want that, he should have been benched and not played, preserving the worry from having to play against him.

How about a parade for the packers, by the fans and showing off Aaron Rodgers. Forget about Brett and brag about our team period.

Brett Who?
Well Brett Favre who is still kicking ass and chasing the dream.
The new Sears commercial tells all. Favre knows he made an ass of himself with the on again off again. Give the guy some slack. Most 40 year olds could't pick up a bag of salt let alone get sacked by a cow every sunday!
I am not a packer fan or a viking fan.
But Brett Favre is the greatest quarterback i will ever see in my lifetime.
Choose to give him whatever homecoming you wish.
But in the back of your mind you will always love the guy for giving you countless sundays of fun filled football and memories that last a lifetime

Typically opposing players names are announced in the NFL. I doubt plying interceptions on the big screen before the game will have any affect on Favre, most players are concentrating on getting ready for the game, not watching the big screen.

** I think the biggest and best thing to do is NOTHING.. HE has proven to be a media whore, and likes the attention.
Instead of booing him , silence would be much better.
