Wisconsin Assembly to vote on puppy mill ban
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Assembly is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a bill that animal rights activists have been working years to see enacted into law.
The measure would make Wisconsin the 26th state to regulate dog breeders. Supporters say the lack of regulation now makes Wisconsin a magnet for large-scale puppy mills where animals are often mistreated.
The bill has broad bipartisan support, with 71 out of 132 lawmakers signed on as co-sponsors. Under the bill, breeders who sell more than 25 dogs a year would have to be licensed. The state would investigate the breeder before issuing a license and could suspend or revoke the license if there were violations.
The Senate bill is awaiting debate.

As much as I am all for stopping the animal abuse, the pet over population and puppy mills. The cocker Breeder in fort won't be touched as she is already licensed and inspected. She gets passes with flying colors as I am told. Won't stop that Gerald Scultz guy either. So this may stop some of the back yard breeders, some of the puppy mills but not the ones that have been really doing the harm and abuse. The lady in fort has her puppy buyers breed back to her adults(which is why there are tons of genetic issues) when she is inspected she doesn't have so many breeding dogs on her property as they are at the owners home. She has had contagious diseases from poor conditions from them living in the barn and what about the dogs that are bred from her puppy buyers. Their conditions aren’t inspected. She doesn't even claim all of her income on her taxes. So those that really have been the good breeders will pay more to produce haelthy puppies and so they will give up. what about the cat mill breeders and the other animals like birds, I am sure they have the same issues.
Just sad as I have contacted several of the TV stations and no one cares. Rip off reports has many compliants on her as well. KIJIJI has several of her ads there, they were emailed complaints about her they don't care either.

My problem is that the state keeps getting bigger and encroaching on our liberties. They do so by giving these bills cut names like "puppy mill bill." It should really be called the "Extension of State Licensing" act. When was the last time that the legislator voted to reduce state power or to repeal a law? It's time to make them part-time and unicameral. That would save the taxpayers a lot of money.

It's about time. Dogs can't protect themselves so we must do it for them. Too bad some people make this necessary. If they don't like the licensing then they must be doing something wrong.

The lady by Fort Atkinson.. Its called Black Knight Arabians, and her name is Patricia and YES she is very much a puppy mill owner and operator.. We had bought two dogs from her.. atleast a thousand dollars a piece.. and ended up having to put the dogs down because of Mental and health disorders.. She is shameful and if you call her because of any problems you may be having with the dog, she simply tells you to bring the dog back in exchange for a new one.. but also for a new fee. People like her, must be stopped.

There wouldn't be a need for an Animal Rights bill of any sort if people would treat animals right in the first place. But humans being what they are----------

Puppy mills are operated by people that are too lazy to do real work and cost taxpayers just as much as all the rest that fit that category....The kicker is that they are also incredibly greedy and cruel to top it off.

OkieFed, the legislature has already passed a stimulus bill, but from what I see mostly people have complained about the revenue side of that (raised state fees, etc.) than applauded their action to boost the economy. Do you honestly suppose that because we're in a recession life stops in its tracks?

"animal rights activists".......Its NOT just "animal right activists" that want this passed, thats just a ridiculous and highly misleading statement....... over 10,000 homeless(not mean or agressive)dogs are killed and disposed of every WEEK at a yearly cost to US taxpayers of about 2 BILLION dollars because of pet overpopulation from puppy mills......its not just "animal rights activists", AP, stop with the propaganda already.

It is disheartening to even think that a vote is needed on this. Animals are mistreated. Go visit a puppy mill sometime...or watch a video. Puppy mills are a disgrace. No vote should ever be needed to protect animals. Dog breeders should be regulated. Furthermore, what goes on for the sake of science is no better. Those animals deserve better.
