The Milton Police Department is investigating a possible attempted child abduction that took place Monday afternoon at Northside Intermediate School.

According to news releases from the school district and police department: A fourth-grade boy reported that a black or dark-blue full-size van was parked in front of the school at about 4 p.m.The boy said a black man between 20 and 30 years old with glasses asked the boy if he wanted a ride. When the boy said no, the man tried to convince him to get in the car and then showed him a boy, described as white and 6 or 7 years old, in the back. The man said the boy was his son.

When the boy walked away, the van did a U-turn and proceeded north on Northside Drive, the boy said. The family of the boy reported the incident to the school and police this morning, Chief Jerry Schuetz said.

Have any of you checked the Online Sex Offender Registry and typed in your address to see who lives near you? You would be surprised..

Spark you are right, but reality is that 4th graders, 8-9 y/o kids embellish and make-up stories. No one called him a liar. Just said i hoped he wasn't making up a story. Because like it or not they do make things up to get attention.

Thank got some of you dopes aren't in charge of something this serious. Every kid would be in grave danger. Stop watching TV. Life isn't about reality shows.

WOW...are you serious?

OK...you don't need (at least I would hope) a fourth grade kid to let you know what is POSSIBLE....

They are out there...and it is not only POSSIBLE...it is PROBABLE....

Remember...it's not the ones you hear about that you should be most concerned about...it's the ones you don't hear about.

I think the child had too many details to be telling a lie. The poor child was probably scared to death. I just hope everyone is SAFE when they are trick or treating on Saturday! Make sure your kids use a buddy system at all times especially if they are without an adult.

I think Milton School District has been very proactive. They have installed security doors with locks to monitor who comes into the buildings. Its tighter than Fort Knox! This was BEFORE the report.

How did I know that someone on here would mention that the story sounds "fishy" or would call it a possible "story" that a kid made up? Oh, and the metallic balloon comment was also unnecessary. Making light of a possible serious situation? Grow up. True or not true, I'd still want to know that there was a POSSIBLE child abductor roaming my community's streets. Like someone else commented, calling the boy a liar may deter another kid from coming forward in the future. All I can say is, shame on you!!

OMG...The school alerted us as soon as it received the information. I can guarantee you that if the school had alerted the kids to the stranger danger, which is your job as a parent, you same ones that are whining about them NOT doing it would be whining about them scaring your kids.
I think the MPD, School District, and this family acted appropriately.
And...I would rather have a report that turned out to be nothing that no report at all. Don't you guys dare sit here commenting that this may be a "story" for no other reason than it could very well prevent another child from speaking because you guys might call him/her a liar too.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

I also wonder about the little boy already in the van...I think the school district did a great job calling parents on the messenger service & alerting us. It is OUR responsibility as parents to talk to our kids & warn them. At the school it is THEIR responsibility to watch the kids while they are on the grounds & keep them safe. You don't want to panic & scare the kids. By 4th grade kids have already learned about stranger danger & likely it will be addressed again. I don't think it's strange to have a delay about the child telling this - lots of factors & he is just a 4th grader.

And to make matters worse, the POS Milton school(s) didn't even notify the kids of a stranger danger alert!! These kids need to be informed of this stuff, but apparently the Milton schools do not think the kids should know about it.

I hope they check all the area surveillance cameras for a black or dark-blue full-size van.

Hope this young man isn't telling a store. To many people cry wolf and than no one believes it when it is true. Just sounds kind of fishy.

“I just don't understand why the Milton School District waited to call us parents to let us know about this at 2:34 this afternoon.”

According to the article, although this happened yesterday, the boy didn’t bother to report it until this morning. So the police *couldn’t* have notified anybody yesterday. The delay here sounds a little hinky, and the police probably wanted to try to get some verification before betting everybody alarmed over what could be a hoax.

So does anyone else think that white boy in the back wasn't supposed to be there???? This is frightening!!! Have they checked for other missing children in the area?

I just don't understand why the Milton School District waited to call us parents to let us know about this at 2:34 this afternoon. This happened yesterday. There were young kids walking to school this morning. They should've informed us right away. I bet there wouldn't have been many kids walking to school today if the parents would have known sooner!!!
