Corvina’s closes, new bar might open

A downtown bar that attracted unfavorable attention in recent months apparently is closed, and the building’s owners are looking to reopen it under new management.

The city declared the liquor license for Corvina’s bar null and void Aug. 20, City Clerk/Treasurer Jean Wulf said.

The city received a letter on that date from Amir Sharifi, who was a partner with Janelle Barlass in running Corvina’s. The letter stated that Sharifi no longer is a partner in the enterprise.

If ownership of a bar changes by more than 20 percent, the liquor license automatically is voided, Wulf said.

Corvina’s has not been open for more than a week.

shop_gurl, if you are here illegally, and you are offended that somebody made a comment that maybe you will now go back to Mexico, so be it. No sympathy here. Ship em back, at whatever the cost.

Some of these comments show that racism continues to thrive among some in Janesville. That is sad and disappointing.

cottonjoe: "the stuff that went on at Corvina's, and its clientele, were offensive"

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY IT'S CLIENTELE WAS OFFENSIVE? IT'S CLIENTELE WAS PREDOMINATELY AFRICAN AMERICAN'S. SO ARE YOU SAYING "WE WERE OFFENSIVE?"

Something tells me even if Corvina's had no issues involving the police, you would still feel the same way. Has anyone ever heard of bigotry and racism? These kinds of comments give Janesville a black eye. If you're not embarrassed you should be.

shop_gurl, dqandhallie is entitled to their opinion. Just because you don't agree with it, and found it offensive doesn't preclude their right to say it. For a lot of us, the stuff that went on at Corvina's, and its clientele, were offensive. Janesville doesn't need or want that type of establishment. Take it somewhere else.
