Ice arena work nearing completion

Bright paint, new cabinetry and a new floor plan have given the Janesville ice arena a facelift in time for the opening Jets hockey game on Saturday.

To bring the Junior A hockey team to Janesville, the city council spent $200,000 to remodel the arena, including building the team its own locker room and adding a concession stand to sell beer.

Installation of an infrared heating system in the east bleacher section is the only item that probably won’t be finished by game day, Matt McGrath, senior engineer, said Tuesday. Other work should be finished Thursday.

Donkeydong- Why are you accusing me of being negative? All I did was ask the Gazette to post info to dissuade the naysayers and show them that this can really work. We can't do anything about the fact that they are here, so let's make the most of it. You are the one who is being negative!

SarahB1 - about 2-4 of the players are high school-aged - the rest are older.

Nice: I agree with a lot of your posting. However, you made one mistake ... a number of the players are still in high school. I wasn't for taxpayer money going to this project, but I hope the fans fill the stands and the team does well. To all those attending, have a great time. P.S. PanamaRed: What time are you going to pick me up?

I think the Jets coming to Janesville is wonderful and to be little it with complaining is rediculous....what kills me is the drinking issue. So from my understanding, if I take my family to a JUNIOR league hockey game (junior meaning college aged players) I will be more likely to get drunk and drive home? It's ironic that my son's YOUTH football team (youth meaning grade aged players) IS SPONSERED by a local janesville bar and I don't frequent there after his practice or games....it all boils down to the decisions you make.

If you hadn't noticed, this message board is full of whiners who do nothing but complain and wish for bad to happen in this city. Know what I say?, If you don't like it here - move, get out, see you later!

I for one hope that the hockey team is very happy here in Janesville and I wish them much success. I know I'll be going to a few games myself!

Hey, lost_city and beeferer, I'm going to the game. You can come with me and count the fans, add up the beer and concession sales plus watch a great game in the process. Or, you could just sit around and whine.

Instead of always being so negative, why not just spend the $9 and go watch the game. While you are there enjoy the game but don't purchase any beer, the more people that show up the less dependent the team will be on the revenue of beer sales to keep the team going.

Why not just ban all the beer sales in all the bars and taverns in Janesville.

Ya, let me ask you complainers something. Do you get together with your little group and huddle around and talk about the ice arena? Do you sit there and say "there's no way I would attend that type of event." Then take a sip from your coffee, complain some more about it? Here's an idea, get a life and go do something. Live a little and find a different club other than the prude club to join.

WHY??? Because you want to see the city fail in it's attempt to better themselves financially.. Quit beating the dead horse.. It's here .. deal with it..I would like to see Attendance numbers , But the other is just some one being nosey.. You will never ( I hope) see those ( Beer/concession sales, and Drunk Driving numbers) published with the box scores..
Here is a suggestion...If you don't like idea that there is a hockey program there..DON'T FRICKEN GO ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Why would a hockey game in Janesville be any different then a Snapper game, bucks game, Brewers game or Packers game. Get your head out of the sand. With your logic, Janesville should ban beer sales everywhere. Labor fest is this weekend, isn't it?

So because your sources and the people you acquaint with aren't going, that means nobody is going? One of the most ignorant statements I've ever read. Let me get the box of tissues out for all of you.

At least it will look good when no one shows up for the game. I have not yet talked to anyone who plans on going.

Gazette- Please post the results of the game- not just the scores, but numbers for attendance, ticket sales, beer sales, concession sales, and of course revenue from drunk driving fines after the game. Oops. Did I say that?
