It's people like you that are trying to ruin this country by Mis-interpreting the 2nd amendment to fit their anti-gun agenda. Hey Glock I am not anti gun. There are way to many people out there that have no training in gun control or use. They are the ones that I worry about the most carring. What needs to be done is a complete overhaul of the Amendments so they fit the times of now.

Janesvillecomments....look a little further into it and you will find most of the guns that mexico authorities are recovering and blame on coming from the US actually did come from the US.....the US govt that is. What they fail to elaborate on is that these arms were given to the Mexico government (pretty loose term there) for the "war on drugs". The mexican govt. then dispersed these arms to their "agents" working the so called war on drugs. These agents either then abandoned their jobs and began working for the cartel taking their guns with them, or sold their guns to the cartels and reported them missing. If you look at the pictures of the recovered "US guns" that the mexico government has put out you will see that most of the arms are those a normal citizen can't get and ARE those that the US military has. Meanwhile Mexico has been pushing for the disarming of US citizens and the Anti guns crowd has been following right along. I don't understand how ANY US citizen could agree with a foriegn govt wanting us to disarm ourselves. Especially when said foreign govt has a history of agression towards the US and sending it's alians into our country. If I was making attempts to overtake my neighbor I would want it's citizens disarmed too!!

We really should take up a collection for that poor man.... the jewelry store owner. Bullets have gotten pretty expensive, what with the run on ammunition after President "Gun Salesman of the Year" Obama got into office.
.
Upgrading his gun will be tough as large caliber handguns have been flying off the shelves in response to the anti-gun stances of Obama, Biden, and Pelosi. Perhaps we can persuade one of those California drug cartel bosses, whom Homeland Security people have accused of cleaning out Walmart of all their American-made machine-guns and shipping them off to Mexico, to part with a single 50 caliber Browning as a good faith gesture.

Miltonalum, I may be missing something but who wishes for no police? Several of my friends are Janesville PD officers. However, if someone comes into your home at night and intends to do you or your family harm calling 911 is a good thing to do, but it is not the only thing you should do, it is up to you to protect yourself, because contrary to popular belief, the police are not obligated to save you. When the STUFF hits the fan, it's just you and the bad guy. The police have a average response time of 5-8 minutes for a town this size. How long do you think it takes for the bad guy to rape or kill you? he would be long gone by then and the police will get there just in time to draw the chalk outline around your body and string up the yellow crime scene tape. That's is what I mean by when seconds count, the police are only minutes away. It is not a slight on the police, it's just that you need to know how to protect yourself, heck it's your duty to protect yourself or your family until the police can get there and if that means that the bad guy has to die in order for me or my loved ones to live, then I guess the bad guy just picked the wrong house to break into.

I wonder if the robber had health insurance and, if so, does it cover getting shot while holding up a jewelry store.

Regardless of anything, this was self defense and the moron got what he deserved. I commend the store owner for protecting his own life. That's what it's all about folks. I guarantee you, if those two men would have entered that store knowing the owner could be legally carrying, they wouldn't have done it. That just proves the need for it.

cl6235dmp the following is from usconstitution.net and disproves your theory.

“In 2007, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in the case of Parker v District of Columbia. In the case, the court ruled that D.C. laws that essentially prohibit the private ownership of handguns within the District, were unconstitutional. Specifically, the appellants, residents of D.C., were denied their 2nd Amendment rights by laws that bar the registration of handguns by anyone except retired D.C. police officers; that bar the carrying of a pistol without a license, even within one's home; and that require that lawfully owned firearms be kept unloaded and disassembled unless used for "lawful recreational purposes."
The Court found that in spite of the first part of the 2nd Amendment — that which refers to the militia — "the Second Amendment's premise is that guns would be kept by citizens for self-protection (and hunting)." The court acknowledged the history the militia played in the creation of the 2nd Amendment, but did not allow the militia to be sole measure to be viewed when looking at these laws restricting gun ownership and reasonable use. Parker, the court ruled, should be allowed to keep handguns in his home.”

Guns are for citizens for self protection!

After another decade in Afghanistan, and with National Guard recruitment dropping due to abuse of the Stop Gap provisions of soldier enlistments, we may need to form local militias again as the remnants of our army are continually shopped out for United Nations "peacekeeping missions" or depleted by Presidential attempts at "statesmanship". I'm accusing both parties, so don't bother with any "It's the Republicans/It's the Democrats" partisan whining.
.
The Federal government isn't committing adequate troops to guard our border with Mexico and citizens in those states adjacent to Mexico can't join the National Guard solely to protect their state (and presumably the border), so those folk may wish to form independent militias, responsible to obeying state and federal law, but not subject to federal control.

When this country goes to heck in a handbasket, the Military will back a corrupt government and then we will have to defend ourselves from them, that is why the 2nd amendment exists. It can happen again, it has in other countries. in the words of Thomas Jefferson..."When the government fears the people there is liberty; when the people fear the government there is tyranny". - Thomas Jefferson 1743-1826

6235, go back and read the whole thing! Then read up on Washington D.C. vs Heller! It's people like you that are trying to ruin this country by Mis-interpreting the 2nd amendment to fit their anti-gun agenda. Try this on for size..."Arms in the hands of citizens [may] be used at individual discretion.....in private self-defense." ---John Adams, Second President of the United States.

This is exactly what the Second Amendment says:

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

This is why we have a Military, when this was written, it delt with the people to defend the country when they had no Military.

Just another indication of why we should be allowed to do what the constitution of the United States AND the State of Wisconsin gaurantee us. THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS! The state of WI really needs to align itself with the majority of the nation and allow concealed carry, or at the very least stop the police forces in the state from violating peoples rights and arresting them for doing nothing but exercising their rights as stated by the constitution and reinforced by AG Van Holen and gov. Doyle. It is quite common for people that open carry to be harassed and illegally be arrested for practicing their rights by the overbearing police in this state that believe they should be the only ones allowed to protect themselves. I praise this man for taking the action to protect his life and his belongings. There are stories of this happening every day throughout the country although the media typically does not cover them very well. For more info and stories of every day citizens protecting themselves from being victims of violent crime check out "opencarry.org"

Because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away! Good job protecting himself! We can only rely on ourselves for our own safety, and I commend this store owner for his actions. This type of injury is part of the risks of this criminals line of work and I don't feel sorry for him one bit. Maybe if the state of WI. would get their head out of their butt and allow concealed carry more criminals would think twice before pulling this type of crime!

This event will help to deter future crime, and this is why every trained citizen should be carrying. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.
