Latino groups advise against census boycott

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A national Latino group is asking immigrants to boycott the 2010 census, but immigrant advocates in Wisconsin are advising against that.

The goal of the boycott is to pressure Congress to pass immigration reform. Organizers say states and cities with undercounted minorities will get less federal aid. They hope their threat will spur action.

But Peter Munoz of Madison's Centro Hispano says that's not a good idea. He says it's better for immigrants to emphasize that they're being constructive members of the community, and that their presence helps bring in federal money.

Christine Neumann Ortiz of the Milwaukee-based Voces de la Frontera agrees. She sympathizes with the goals of the boycott but says it could hurt legal and illegal immigrants who benefit from public programs.

Hundreds of them share a single social security number. The fraud at health clinics is off the charts. One woman has 6 aliases. The pre natal care she is getting is first rate and being paid for by you and me.

Social Security: When a illegal is employed they have social security and medicare withheld from their wages. Then when they work for 30-50 years we (u.s. government) deport them and they are disqualified and denied benefits. I know it seems harsh, but that's the way it is.

Let 'em boycott, and deport all illegals, regardless of where they are from and whether their kids were (illegally) born here or not. Boo-hoo. This is a system that has been badly and intentionally abuse.

Apply for a green card, don't enter until you are approved, and pay taxes and social security. If you want BENEFITS, CONTRIBUTE! If not, stay in Mexico or wherever you are from (or become someone's domestic partner - hahahaha). And take heart -- the morbidly obese Caucasian females in this country will no doubt eventually find love with someone else.

IT'S THAT SIMPLE -- it's called having laws about border entry and enforcing them! I don't double that most "functional" (and carefully note my emphasis on "functional" here) countries in this world do just that.
Would that we might be so!

The illegal immigrants have broken the law and now they are not sure if they want to be counted or not? Immigration reform is needed but not at the expense of the good people that stood in line to enter our great Country. No AMNESTY for people who will not obey the laws of this Country. You see what happens to people who enter North Korea or Iran. A few years of hard labor or a promise of a deal for their release.
