Edgerton High responding to bomb threat
Edgerton High School will search the grounds, building and student belongings Friday after a student found a bomb threat this afternoon, according to a letter sent to parents, students and staff today.
The faint message reads "Bomb this Friday," but officials aren't sure when it was written, the letter says.
The school building and grounds will be searched before students enter Friday, and purses, backpacks and coats will be searched, the letter says. Students only will be allowed to enter through the main entrance and parking lot entrance.

According to a 2005 report from the U.S. Department of Justice, "... it is probably reasonable to conclude that bomb incidents involving real bombs in schools are relatively rare ... Furthermore, relatively few bomb explosions are preceded by a warning
or threat to officials." I did an internet search on the number of actual bombs exploding or found on school property and this is the best I could find. It occurred to me after the latest threat at Craig High School, that school shootings seem much more prevalent. I agree with the comment regarding giving the students a task to do during the evacuations; make it something that most would not find enjoyable, and be consistent. I think it would help curb these time-consuming threats.

So they are taking the note in good faith that the bomb will be on Friday? Has it occurred to anyone that a note writer who may be planning to detonate a bomb at the the school may be untrustworthy?

not condoning what is going on, but they (the officials ) said they were not sure when the note was written,, And knowing how "Quick" out local law enforcement is .. it kinda of tells you something... doesn't it??

I think students who make bomb threats simply get a power trip out of it. They may not need "recognition", but they have just pulled the chain of several hundred people (and in the case at CHS, close to 1500 people or more)and can sit back and watch everyone else have to change/adjust his or her day. These students must have real insecurity issues that they need to go to this length to "control" their environments, and I agree, penalties need to be severe with the level of dispruption to the school and law enforcement.

When was the last time a bomb threat turned out to be real? If there was a real bomb after a threat, where was it?

These kids need to start getting hit hard with the law for punishment. As a former member of law enforcement, time is taken off the road patroling and handling calls for service while searching. Yet you have to take all bomb threats serious

We ought to come up with a plan that during a bomb threat search that every student must recite the pledge of allegiance during the search or every student must write an essay on school violence in today's society. Use the time as a constructive effort to keep students from enjoying conversation or texting other students while searches go on. I know you may say why should everyone suffer if it is one student threating, well maybe it would be a deterrent for students. They might start to tell on each other or better yet, convince their "buddy" to not do the threat at all.

This is getting so out of hand. Now these kids, parents, and staff have to be on edge for the rest of the week. I wonder what these kids get out of this?? They know they did it, but no one else does.... not recognition then? After last week's bomb threat at Craig, my daughter wondered the same thing. In her words "It's just stupid" Well put!!

Well as sad, as it sounds maybe, we should be checking kids better; I am not by any means saying they are not handling this correctly. It seems that someone wants the attention and they will try again. And then we have warned the person or child, we have to stop the threats. Can we just assume it is a way to get out of school no we cannot. I agree they have to take precautions as we have learned in the past we cannot take this threat lightly. However, we just warned the person who wrote the note how can this person be caught now and be punished?
