Interstate chase ends in arson
A chase down southbound Interstate 90/39 ended without injury Saturday morning after the driver set fire to her vehicle and apparently threatened to set fire to herself.
The suspect, Leah M. Pospisil, 28, Chicago, was taken to Mercy Hospital and arrested on charges of fleeing arrest, arson, reckless driving, disorderly conduct and an outstanding warrant charging battery, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office. Vehicle theft charges also are pending.
Police were called to the home of Pospisil's mother when the mother called saying Pospisil was threatening the family with a gas can. Pospisil fled in a reportedly stolen vehicle, the release said. Janesville police later saw the vehicle in a parking lot off Milton Avenue and pursued it onto the Interstate.
The chase lasted a few miles until a Rock County Sheriff's deputy was able to successfully deploy stop sticks to flatten the tires of Pospisil's vehicle. Pospisil got out of the vehicle, poured gasoline on the vehicle and herself, and lit the car on fire. Officers chased Pospisil on foot and dislodged the lighter from her hand.
The Interstate was shut down for about an hour as authorities made the arrest, put out the fire and towed the vehicle.

What's with the "mentally retarded"? That is a term no longer used and it is very offensive. It is mentally challenged, disabled or whatever. NOT mentally retarted.

"clinically retarded" people don't do things like this. How many times have you ever heard of mentally retarded people pulling such stunts??? This person is obviously "clinically depressed", which is very sad. She obviously is at the point where she is thinking irrationally and doesn't care whether she lives or dies.

I'm still waiting for everone to jump on the "She must be sick, poor woman. Let's hope she gets the help she needs" bandwagon.
Unless a person is clinically mentally retarded, behavior such as displayed by Leah Pospisil is worthy of time behind bars.
Just be glad she didn't have a gun in her possession.
Half of the prison inmates in this country would qualify as being mentally ill. It's sad, but it's true. The thing is, most of them know right from wrong. The ones that don't know right from wrong (unless they're clinically retarded) are the most dangerous of all.
I, for one, would not wish to live next door to any of these people once they get paroled.

Gasoline cans should be banned. Gasoline should also be banned.

A domestic dispute. Must be she wants custody of her daughter and her parents won't let her? Too bad, they couldn't resolve it with a mediator, counselor. Now she'll have charges and be in the system and have to deal with those people, plus her problem with her parents.People in the "system", in Wisconsin don't help, they punish. Stupid as h? Yes.

justobserving - if she was in the vehicle in the parking lot, all she had to do was put the car in drive and take off. The article didn't say the car was parked, it said they spotted the car was in the lot, which means she could have been in it already. Much of Milton Ave. is not far from the interstate, unless they already had cop cars out ahead of her, all she had to do was drive to the interstate and get on and they had no way to stop her. I imagine she had the gas can in the car with her if she had previous threatened her family with it. Once her tires were flat, I imagine all she did was reach over and pour it. The article makes a little more sense now, doesn't it?

Why weren't the police able to question her before she reached Janesville? Why didn't the police just arrest her in the parking lot off Milton Avenue? Why weren't they able to stop her before she reached the interstate? After they DID stop her, how did she have enough time to douse herself AND her car with gas and light the fire before they could stop her from doing that? Something is wrong with this article....

Betty_Humpter you are a disgrace to humanity. Obviously the woman needs help. And for an ignorant fool like you to say something so coldhearted and unfeeling is just as sad.

Betty_Humpter - do you know this person to make the assumption that you have so thoughtlessly posted on this website? Take a hint from "thekid3477" and "luvdasea2" - you have no idea what this individual has been through nor the events currently going on. All you know is what you are told through the media.
