APPLETON — The Wisconsin State Patrol says a drunk driver struck a State Patrol cruiser while the trooper was out of his vehicle on a traffic stop in Appleton.

The accident happened around 12:30 Sunday morning. Neither the trooper nor the driver was injured. The trooper says while he was on the traffic stop, he heard braking noises and turned to see a car hitting his cruiser.

The driver of the car, a 33-year-old man from Illinois, was arrested at the scene and taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He was later taken to the Outagamie County Jail.

So they could blend easier.

hannah-

In the United States of America the justice system is founded on INNOCENT until PROVEN GUILTY. When law enforcement arrests someone, it is the states burden to prove guilt, NOT the person charged.

916wi this link will show you that hisrotically about 40% of all fatalities are alcohol related and 10-16% of all injuries are alcohol related.

It wasn't breaking noses, it was braking noses. Apparently there were a number of noses traveling on the highway and when they saw they trooper, they hit the brakes. They probably could not resist interest in what was going on, that being a natural attribute of their species.

"..I would guess the the majority of accidents have nothing to do with alcohol" I guess that settles the argument! Who can debate facts like that?

I hope this was caught on the squad camera. Maybe Wisconsin can get on an episode of dumb drivers.

916WI, This is WI. where there is a bar on practically every street corner. We have more alcoholics in this state than in any other in the USA. I think you are living under a rock or are in denial if you think that a great number of accidents are not alcohol related. Wake up! It is not even a serious crime here until your umpteenth time!!!!!

There is that word "accident" again, as if the alcohol "accidently" got into his body.

I've heard the sound of my own nose being broke. But I can't imagine what the sound of braking noses would be like!

Oh, I think they do choose to be stupid for the most part. Family, genetics, or upbringing play a part, but it is the one area where we can truly make a difference if we work hard. But it's easier to be stupid than it is to pick up a book or think ten or fifteen seconds before doing something.

It's not that big of a problem--It's just that every time alcohol is remotely involved in a situation it seems to make headlines......I would guess the the majority of accidents have nothing to do with alcohol, however if you read the papers you would be led to believe that almost all do......

I really am glad this officer or any one else was not hurt. Wisconsin needs to toughen up on all the drunks on the road. Some people seem to think its socially acceptable.

That is correct. We live in the United States of America and have the freedom to "choose."
