State suspends payments after newspaper exposes fraud
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin has suspended payments to another 35 child care providers because of evidence they violated regulations.
The Department of Children and Families said Monday that payments under the beleaguered Wisconsin Shares program were suspended on Sunday. All of the cases are being referred to local law enforcement.
Earlier this month the department suspended 34 providers.
All of the suspensions came after a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel series showing serious abuses in the system.
The announcement came a day before department secretary Reggie Bicha was to appear before the Legislature’s budget committee to discuss problems with the program.
Bicha said in a statement Monday that new tools to fight fraud are being put to use and stopping scammers is his staff’s top priority.
Information about all 69 suspensions can be found at www.dcf.wisconsin.gov.

speaking of Jackson, he was in rockford not to long ago and wanted to perserve unity but at the same time he held a prayer at a church and requested the donations to go to him because he is the one people came to see. bottom line is that he is a extortionist. wake up people!!

Thsi program has helped thousands of families work instead of depending on benefits. The actions of a few fraudsters do not change that. We need better auditing; we shouldn't have to depend on the press to uncover these abuses.

This article is disingenuous. Funds are NOW suspended; after multiple stories. Only took about two years to get the fire hose of money turned off after the first investigations revealed questionable payments…

I'll agree with booch also, was it the CEO of goodwill? that had on a $1000 suit a few years back? ACORN is a joke along with a few others there have been stories about. All that money flowing in and they think "who'll miss a few grand" by the time our dollar gets to the poor who need it they get about 10 cents of it ....

There are far too many folks out there making a killing (so-to-speak) from "free" money.
They need to be exposed.

smaller scale - same problem. ACORN. Community grants. Call it what you will. It all comes from the same pot (us), intended to help the poor and needy, but instead lines the pockets of a few. Go ahead -- start calling me a racist. Jesse Jackson made his living off similar funding -- as did hundreds, perhaps thousands just like him.
