Wis. regulators set hearings on rate increases
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State regulators will hold public hearings on We Energies' plan to increase electric, steam and natural gas rates.
We Energies subsidiary Wisconsin Electric Power Company has asked the state Public Service Commission for permission to increase electric rates by about 7 percent. WEPCO also wants to raise Wauwatosa steam rates by about 7 percent, downtown Milwaukee steam rates by about 6 percent and gas rates by 3.6 percent.
Another We Energies subsidiary, Wisconsin Gas LLC, has requested a 4.6 percent increase in natural gas rates.
The PSC has scheduled hearings in Appleton, Madison, Milwaukee and Racine on Tuesday. Each location will offer two hearings, one at 3 p.m. and another at 6 p.m.

.
PSC auditors (who work for us) recommend a smaller increase of 4.9%, achieved by furloughs and salary freezes among other cost savings. We Energies apparently has some increased costs to bear related to water-quality infrastructure improvements at Oak Creek.

Odd considering if you type the words natural gas rates in google you find that all entries will say they are expected to be down as much as 9-16% this year. The majority of the day old entries are about power companies decreasing rates with one exception; Wisconsin.

I wonder what the reason for the increase is?
