OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) – A Winneconne man is accused of killing his girlfriend’s two cats and hiding their remains in her couch and backyard.

Thirty-year-old Michael A. Kmecheck is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Monday in Winnebago County. He’s charged with two felony counts of mistreating animals.

Police were called to the woman’s Oshkosh apartment in December after she reported receiving strange text messages from Kmecheck. Officers found her apartment vandalized and the cats missing.

One cat was found dead outside with a head injury. The other’s body was found stuffed in the couch. A woman who answered the phone at Kmecheck’s home Saturday referred questions to defense attorney Ryan Urlik.

A message left with Urlik wasn’t immediately returned.

PBRMan, you prove time and time again on these blogs what an ignorant hick you are, and this latest series of comments only solidifies that.

What in the world is wrong with people that they have to do hideous things? Do they thrive on NEGATIVE attention, or what?

The guy should fry!
I love kitties!
Justme46- have you tried shots for your hubby?

Yes they are just cats but you cannot just kill them like that!
For the elderly cats are great pets. Easier to care for than dogs.
I agree medicinal!

I wish I could have a kitty, my hubby is allergic! And yes, cats are medicinal. That has been proven. And cats are known to sniff out cancer in a human. They are just adorable, like you say though, could have been worse. JMO

Although some will disagree, the loss of the cats is not the most disturbing aspect of this incident. This was an act of violence directed towards the woman. The cats were surrogates. Once eliminated, the next target of violence is obvious.

So pbr, you're able to determine the worth of a life by the contributions of that life? That must be a powerfull feeling.

In the mean time the ferrel cat in my back yard just had kittens, she can come get them, at the risk of being attacked by a viscious looking, large ferrel mother. Dang, I may have to put a pellet in that later. More things added to my "to do" list.

While the man is an idiot and needs therapy, the girl is lucky it was her cats and not her. The question is how do we protect others from him? Prison for killing a cat? or prison for mandatory therapy? Or, just lop off his left hand and let everyone know, people with lopped off left hands are dangerous.

I'm not going to call you ignorant.

What an ignorant thing to post. Although I've come to expect that on these boards (Are you reading this PBR?) What if had been dogs? Lots of those. Maybe little kids? We can always make more.

cardtrader, with his criminal record (disorderly, battery, lots of bail jumping/parole violation) he will almost certainly get prison. This is a Class I felony with up to 3.5 years.
.
gmaof3, when adolescents such as Dahmer deliberately abuse animals it is often a precursor to a range of adult sociopathic behaviors. In this case, though, it was probably intended as a threat or revenge, with the animals the victims of his animosity toward the woman. Either way this makes him a dangerous subject. I would guess she broke things off with him because she was already skeezed out for some unknown reason.

It costs the tax payers of Wisconsin about $28,000 per year to "lock him up". Your right- this would be a great use of our money as we continue swimming through this booming economy.
