Car stolen in Milwaukee with baby in back
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police have arrested a 60-year-old man on suspicion of stealing a car with an 8-month old boy inside.
Police say the car was stolen Sunday night at a gas station when the baby's mother went to pay for gas. Police say two males punched the man in the car with the baby, pulled him out and drove off with the baby in the back seat.
Someone ended up dropping the baby off about 35 minutes later at a police station.
Department spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the man told police he thought the car was his own vehicle, which had been stolen recently.

wiggle, I believe her son IS the baby and the man she knows was a friend along for the ride/guy she picked up in a bar/babysitter she was giving a ride home/whatever. Gramps hit the man, not her son the baby.
It sounds like Gramps discovered the baby after taking off, stopped outside the District 4 police station and put the baby on the hood of a parked squad car. Since they arrested the guy Monday morning, I assume he took off after leaving the baby.
I'm guessing the statement that the man may have been intoxicated could come from the smell of booze when they arrested him, or perhaps he was drunk enough fall asleep in the car later and the police discovered him or he drove home and left the stolen car parked on his front porch and the police ran the plates when they drove by and saw it Monday morning.
JoyM - perhaps he turned 8 months old on Monday? ☺

Janesville comments - your link is just as confusing!
"The man stole the car shortly after 10 p.m. when the boy’s mother walked inside a gas station in the 2500 block of N. 27th St. to pay for fuel she had just pumped, according to a statement from police.
The woman’s son and a man she knows stayed in the Buick LeSabre while she was inside the station, the statement says."
OK so grandpa hits her son and he gets out, so what about "and a man she knows" where did he go?
I agree with JoyM

janesvillean, they did not drop the car off at the police station. They put the baby on top of a squad car and took off.
A woman ran into District 4 station and alerted authorities that there was a baby in a car seat on top of a squad car outside.

OK, so based on the JSonline story, Gazette does not even have baby's age correct. Maybe everyone should go home and try again on this story tomorrow.

* Car stops for gas. Woman goes inside. Man and baby in car.
* 60-year-old guy sees car, maybe thinks it is his car. Gets help. Punches man in car and throws him out. Drives off.
* Figures out his car did not have a baby in it and this one does (or maybe it was the cupholders), drops car off at police station.
* Arrested later. 60-year-old tells cops he thinks it was his car, but who knows. Could just be a story. But how many 60-year-old carjack as a hobby?

The police aren't sure there was a second man. Perhaps the guy who was waiting in the car with the baby told the mother that two guys jumped him, because saying "Grandpa decked me and stole your car" sounds a little lame. More details are available at http://www.jsonline.com/news/crime/97293...

I'm confused too - did they arrest the person who dropped the baby off? Did they recover the car? Is the man who was in the car all right? The 60 year old was arrested for suspicion of stealing a car with a baby inside. What about assault and battery of the guy they attacked to get the car?

So there was a man in the car with the baby? Two men stole the car but only one was arrested? I'm confused.

So, you can't even vaguely recall your own license plate number? Yet another bozo who should not be on our roads.
