Wood says he shouldn’t face discipline over DUIs
MADISON–A Wisconsin lawmaker charged three times with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is asking his colleagues not to take any disciplinary action against him.
A committee that’s been formed to consider whether to expel Rep. Jeffrey Wood plans to hold a public hearing Wednesday. The committee is also considering the potential for lesser punishment such as a reprimand against the independent who represents a district in northwestern Wisconsin.
In a resolution released Tuesday, Wood recounts a series of lawmakers who have been charged with a range of crimes dating back to the 1940s. He says the Legislature took no action against them, and shouldn’t discipline him, either.
Wood, a former Republican, suggests he is being treated differently because he is an independent.

"kiowamohican, he already announced he would not run for re-election.

Given that I'm not sure what the value of expelling him right now is. It would require a special election and time for spring elections is short. Even if they can hold it during a regular election it's still a big expense for his district, in the middle of budget problems everywhere."
.
One of the few times I agree with you!
It's obviously just a big political game, that will only cost tax payers $$$$.
The "R" or "D" next to the name makes little difference when it comes to ethics. The Democrats had a great shinning star in Peg Lautenshlager (sp). Not to mention Spitzer, Edwards, Jefferson on the national scene.

Right, just because he's able to vote on the penalties that the rest of us "little people" would face for a DUI, doesn't mean that he should have to face any consequences himself. I'd be real proud if I was one of the idiot voters who put this guy in office.

“Wood says he shouldn’t face discipline over DUIs”
Isn’t that the plea of every drunken (drug induced) driver?
I find it very disturbing that an elected official, who is allegedly held to a higher standard, uses the same excuse as a common drunkard. Mr. Wood, you are a disgrace. 1, 2, 3 strikes you’re out. Go away and get some help.

I shudder to think of the time and taxpayer expense 'researching' the list "of lawmakers who have been charged with a range of crimes dating back to the 1940s."
Boot him out.

I thought Wood said, don't punish me and I won't seek re-election. So if they go after him does this mean he will run?

Hey - this IS just my opinion, BUT . . . doesn't everyone who drives under the influence (for the 3rd offense) have to suffer the consequences? And these include fines, legal fees and mandatory jail time - not to mention the personal and professional impact. Why should lawmakers be exempt from the laws? What doesn't ring right here????

Anything less than expulsion will be a let down to our State. Jeff Wood should have been expelled in December of 08', after his 3rd drunk driving arrest. He's been convicted 3 times, and has been arrested 5 times of driving under the influence. His actions are not representative of his district and this state. Excuse time is over. It is time to bring some dignity to the people in the Chippewa Falls area.

Thank God for the "Party of NO". If it wasn't for the few Democrats who voted NO to socialized medicine we'd be one step closer to being a communist country!

Oh yeah, lets let him off...NOT!! Everyone else has consequences so why shouldn't he? Especially in a time where you can get in trouble for what you put on social networking sites. He even avoided news crews by going out his office window, what a moron. Time to deal with what you did. He is one of the reasons that people don't think drinking and driving is serious, if he doesn't take it seriously then realistically why should anyone else?

Waste all the frivolous time you want with hearings to "discipline" him. Won't matter; he'll be long gone come November elections.
