Hunters kill 106,000 deer in Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials say hunters killed about 106,500 deer during the first two days of Wisconsin’s November gun season.
The Department of Natural Resources says that’s up about 6.3 percent from opening weekend last year, when hunters killed 100,330 deer. Hunters took 54,263 bucks and 52,141 antlerless deer.
DNR officials stress the numbers are preliminary and were based on call-around surveys to deer registration stations. They say the final numbers likely will be higher when all registration stubs are entered into the agency’s database over the next few months.

More bucks than antlerless? It doesnt sound like the earn a buck is very affective. Thats the first time I can ever recall more bucks than does being harvested. I still thought the numbers would be higher than that since there arent many crops left standing for the deer to hide in. Im not happy about the way the dnr is trying to "manage" the herd. In a few years we wont see any deer at all if they have it their way. This may be my last year hunting due to the expense and lack of success. Ive hunted for nearly 30 years now and was hoping my kids would love the sport as much as I USED TO. Its pretty hard to keep a 12 year old interested in the sport when they go out, freeze their tales off, and get nothing to show for it. Its sad that the one of the best traditions in Wisconsin is slowly dying because of the DNR. Way to go. Good luck to all and be safe!

I bagged the biggest doe I have ever harvested today! This compliments the one I got in October very well. Now I need one with antlers! The freezer is starting to fill! Over the first three days of the season I have seen about 20.

Wow, so many grammar and spelling mistakes. Off topic I know, but it might reinforce stereotypes of hunters.

Lafayette County,I saw 30 deer opening day 5 bucks the rest doe,Between the 3 of us we bagged 4,1 HUGE doe 1 small doe ,a 7pt and a 6pt.they are out there ! I also saw people leaving the woods after an hour of hunting and they complained later when I saw them getting ready to the afternoon hunt, there are no deer ! they said. How about sitting and waiting ? Patients is key and knowing where to sit don't hurt either. That makes 4 for me this year and I am done.

I talked to family up by rusk/chippewa county and they saw 14-15 deer opening morning on our private land up north. I hunt in Jefferson County on Private land and I didn't see a thing. I have never had a bow/gun season seeing as few deer as I have this year. Worst by far in my 17 years of hunting.

Those numbers must be out of the CWD zone. I saw one deer all weekend and I hunt on private land. This is the worst year I've seen and I've hunted for 28 years
