JANESVILLE—A woman is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries at Mercy Hospital after a domestic dispute that escalated to choking and involved a handgun, according to Janesville police.

Thomas J. Anderson, 43, of Janesville, was arrested at 2:53 a.m. Tuesday at his residence in the 3100 block of Mount Zion Ave., on charges of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, substantial battery and strangulation, said Sgt. Dean Sukus.

He remains in custody at the Janesville Police Department.

Anderson and the injured woman, whose age is not known at this time, live with a couple other people at the same residence in the 3100 block of Mount Zion Ave. Their relationship and what they were arguing about is unknown at this time, Sukus said.

A headlock is a self-defense taught move, and involves strangulation/suffication

The woman was NOT his girlfriend. She was a roommate who moved in a few weeks ago and has been causing problems since she moved in. I know the man was trying to find another place to live in order to get away from her. I only wish he had found somewhere else to stay one day sooner. I'm not defending his actions, but since he has no prior history of violence, it makes me wonder what she did to provoke him.

Well you can bet that this guy will be back out on the streets and the next person might not be so lucky. Once an abuser always an abuser. Glad to hear the girl will be ok.

there are losers of both genders out there....but DV isn't the answer. Get the hell away from a crazy person! Don't get sucked in to the abusive relationship and pay attention to the red flags...

FYI: Defensive actions do not involve strangulation.

bassman - I had a freako boyfriend (he was going through a divorce) who told the police that I kicked the crap out of his new car. So the police came to my place of employment and asked me to accompany them to their office. I almost peed my pants going there as I've never been in trouble before and then was asked to bring in all my high-heeled shoes the next day. Brought all of them in (including ones I hadn't worn for years), they took their scrapings, sent me on my way, and that was the last I heard from them for a couple of weeks. The detective called me then to let me know that he had another "girlfriend" who didn't particularly take well with me. I can finally laugh about it now. (I didn't have to spend the money you did though. That sucks!)

A relative wife/husband had a disagreement in public that wasn't physical until the WIFE ran up to him and started swinging in his face hollering HELP HELP HELP to make it look like it was him as the perpetrator when it was SHE who started the whole violence thing.....really for no reason.

I had a wacko girlfriend at one time that got upset because I said she had a gambling problem, she then called the police and said I threatened her, with a gun. I was arrested at work, for domestic violence,it cost me thousands of dollars to get out of a bogus charge that woman needed an attitude adjustment, but not from me ! I will let nature take its course for her.Women can be very evil and push men to their limits some can control themselves and some not ! No woman should ever be hit or abused in my opinion.
In most cases there are three sides to a situation her word, his word and the TRUTH.

kirkone- Yep, its really something how some people are not allowed to defend themselves.
That, and the whole politically-correct weapon scenario where someone can get away with just about anything if they use a motor vehicle recklessly and violently, but just POSSESSING a gun at certain times is "reckless" and "endangering".

Swisschick,

What is the "population" of the apartment? In otherwords how many people live there freely? When speaking to friends, I dont use the term "population" to describe the number of full time occupants in my home.

Maybe rooster is a fan of the late packer great, Reggie White?

To begin with it was a non-threatening injury.Second maybe she attacked him and he had to subdue her. I wouldn't suggest strangulation but there are some wicked women out there. Believe me I was married to one. I know what they are capable of especially throwing things and that includes knives.

Where is PBRMan and all the rest of the Beloit naysayers lately?? Lets see, the murder suspect from last week was originally from Janesville and now this?? Oh my gosh, say it isn't so. (Can you hear the sarcasm)?

"endangering safety"...."recklessly endangering safety"???....really???......the gun never even went off!!

Someone can almost KILL by recklessly using using a motor vehicle and they don't get these charges!!!

Wouldn't EVERY DUI, excessive speeding, etc. warrant these charges, then?????

I'm not defending anyone here, just making the comparison.

Why on earth are you people trying to rationalize this? It happened because someone chose to batter. Period.

However bad the UAE may be, it is still not justification for anything that happens here. You can't compare everything against the worst case. That argument is like saying "Jeffery Dahmer wasn't such a bad guy, at least he wasn't Hitler."

I'm sure he wasn't provoked in any way. He just decided to go beat her and strangle her carrying a gun just for the hell of it right? I do not believe that for a second.

rooster,

Overpopulation? Really. My guess is that census statistics will show that the housing supply in Rock county and Janesville grow faster than the rate of population. I will also guess that Mr Anderson's attorney will not plea overpopulation as a defense for allegedly strangulating a roommate.

this is part of what i call 21st century reefer madness. alcohol is legal so theres no need to report, even tho that MAY have been the cause. yet if they found a pot pipe on him that would be printed and people then read that pot creates violence. which based on the 60's most people know to be untrue:)

good question bassman. i had a convo with an asst D.A. of rock county and i asked him 'what is the number one crime you see??' his answer, 'my boss told me 20% of all our crimes are domestic violence'. so i of course followed up with 'what percentage of those are alcohol related' and his not surprising reply....'nearly all of them':(
