Palin endorses Prosser in Wis. Supreme Court race

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Friday, April 1, 2011 - 8:47 a.m.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — In a sign of how much national attention Wisconsin's Supreme Court race is drawing, Sarah Palin has now weighed in with an endorsement.

The race is between incumbent Justice David Prosser and Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg. While the seven-member court is officially nonpartisan, Prosser is seen as part of a conservative majority, while a Kloppenburg win would tilt the court's ideological balance to the left.

The former Alaska governor tweeted Friday, "Wisconsin, please remember to vote for Justice Prosser on April 5."

Prosser's campaign says it didn't seek her endorsement but welcomes broad support. Kloppenburg's campaign declined to comment.

Political experts say the race is shaping up as a referendum on Republican Gov. Scott Walker's contentious push to strip collective bargaining rights from most state employees.

Good Grief -A Palin endorsement for Prosser? I'll bet the Kloppenburg people did cartwheels when they got that news. I am trying to think of an endorsement that could possibly be worse, and am at a loss.

Concerned - Former Gov. Lucey was not only Prosser's aid, he was honorary co-chair of his campaign. In his own words:
"I have followed with increasing dismay and now alarm the campaign of Justice David Prosser, whom I endorsed at the outset of his campaign and in whose campaign I serve as the honorary co-chairman," Lucey said in the statement. "I can no longer in good conscience lend my name and support to Justice Prosser's candidacy. Too much has come to light that Justice Prosser has lost that most crucial of characteristics for a Supreme Court Justice -- as for any judge -- even-handed impartiality. Along with that failing has come a disturbing distemper and lack of civility that does not bode well for the High Court in the face of demands that are sure to be placed on it in these times of great political and legal volatility."

"Wisconsin voters need to understand that the fundamental issue in this fight is control of public policy."
Well said, hodag. That's exactly why we can't allow corporations to buy our politicians or try to blind us with the media outlets they own.
Soon we will have the opporunity at the polls to demonstrate the meaning of democracy. Our nation was built on the principles of equality, poor and rich alike. The little man will come out ahead, no matter how much money the wealthy businessmen have to control our leaders and our media. For truth, visit the state's legislative website. http://legis.wisconsin.gov/spotlight/
Enlighten yourself about the Acts Walker passed in Jan. in order to turn a projected state surplus into a sudden deficit. It wasn't by handing the money back to you or me... well, unless you're one of our state's wealthy Walker campaign contributors.
You can't fool the majority of the highly educated here in Wisconsin. We have the fight of a Badger in us. :)

Wisconsin voters need to understand that the fundamental issue in this fight is control of public policy. Poor Richard- "your kind" kind of a bad choice of words dont you think? What "kind" is Mr Poobah. The intelligent kind? The well thought out kind? What is your kind? The mud slinging kind? The can't make legit arguements kind?
I rather enjoy heated discussions on these blogs, because there are some really inelligent folks. I also cringe when I come here as well because there are about 5-10 of you that come on here and throw around fake facts and like to discourage disagreement. Sad really, its the main reason that we as a society have a very dumbed down population. Many vote based on TV ads and what they see on the cable news, be it Fox,CNN, or MSNBC. For me I do my own research , find my own sources, and make my own decisions. I get sick of hearing folks repeat information and facts that you hear repeated on Fox for example.
I also love how there are some folks that say the ads against Prosser on the Catholic sex scandal are not warranted. Politico says they are "barely true". I actually read the article related to their claim. It seems to state that in those times it was much different. Maybe its me, but I dont give a damn when it was! As a human being, it is never alright to sexually assult kids! Would anyone else be the first one to report it? I don't care what the time or situation, if I found out my priet/pastor was assaulting/molesting kids, my next call is to the police department. For me , morality has NO time frame. Those that suggest otherwie have serious issues.
Also the ads about Mrs Kloppenberg putting an 80 year old farmer in jail, were rated "pants on fire" by Politico. So make your own choice , even if its based on the Politico stories. A "barely true" story about ignoring child sex assault, or a "pants on fire" story about jailing an 80 year old farmer?
I hope this is the second domino to fall here, the first was yesterday(court decision) ther are MANY more to come(recalls). Keep the rhetoric thick conservatives, see how far it gets you!

As for the priest abuse case, show me how Prosser handled it any differently than any other D.A. 30 years ago. The ad is out of context. Period. If this had come up today, of course things would've been handled differently. I don't agree with how it was handled but who took on the Catholic Church back then?

How sad when some put politics ahead of pedophiles: Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser told a mother in 1979 when he was Outagamie County district attorney that he did not want to prosecute a priest accused of abusing her sons because "it would be too hard on the boys," newly released documents indicate.

The Green Bay priest, John Patrick Feeney, who is now 81, was eventually convicted in 2004 on three counts of sexual assault of a minor and one count of attempted sexual assault of a minor.

Prosser is scheduled to hear a case brought by another priest that could result in Feeney being freed from the Fox Lake Correctional Institution, where he is serving a 15-year sentence.

But Troy Merryfield, who says he was among Feeney's victims, urged Prosser on Monday to step aside when cases involving priest sexual misconduct come before the high court.

"He dropped the ball, and he should recuse himself," Merryfield said.

Maybe another one of his victims might have a little different story , huh Kay? Especially since ther were VICTIMS (plural). Why dont you tell me again about contenet(context)? Of course Mr. Prosser has declined comment on the issue. I would think if this was so false he would have grounds for a libel suit, or at very least defend himself publicly, but he has declined comment, surprised? Vince Biskupic (prosecutor) made and excuse for him, "It was a different era then". Thats legitamite?

Would we all agree that Jesse Jackson and Sarah Palin hold similar weight here? They are both here for personal publicity nothing more. Their roles are insignificant.

Kay- but it seems that you ignore the substance here. Its somehow acceptable for prosser to ignore this case? Meet with the bishop to re locate a pedophile instead of charge him? What about that makes you happy to support this man exactly?
Are you saying after 30 years we should just forget that Justice Prosser helped to shelter a chlid molester? Is there a statute of limitations on child molestation?

So much for his claim that he isn't partisan! I'm thinking he is wishing she would have kept her mouth shut with her 38% favorable ratings.

I'm am so happy right now - the victim of that 33 year old sexual abuse case Kloppenberg is trying to benefit from has just put out a commercial to say --why Kloppenberg would you allow this to continue. To benefit from his pain. Bravo

DanG: It is as OK for Sarah Palin to express her opinion about Wisconsin's business as it is/was for Jesse Jackson and all of the non-Wisconsinites that protested at the capitol. Let's not switch the rules in the middle of the game.

Well that should be the nail in the coffin, esp. after former Gov. Lucey (a Democrat) pulled his endorsement yesterday.

I'm happy to see that Pallin is endorsing Prosser. It helps me to decide for whom I will vote on Tuesday. I wonder why Prosser's campaign didn't ask or want her support. I hope Newt puts in his two- cents worth.

garyprimer- "her thoughts" Does Palin have any? We know she has plenty of opinions, and feels everyone should hear them. Would it be too much to hope she gets bit by a rabid moose?
