Wis. court challenger hasn't decided on recount

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Supreme Court challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg's campaign says she hasn't decided whether to seek a re-count in her bid to upset incumbent Justice David Prosser.

Final county tallies show Prosser with a 7,316-vote lead. The conservative justice declared victory on Friday and was scheduled to address the media Monday in Madison.

Kloppenburg has until Wednesday to request a re-count. The margin is close enough that the campaign wouldn't have to cover any re-count costs.

Kloppenburg's camp says she hasn't made a decision yet and she didn't plan to announce any moves on Monday.

SarahB1- the networks that are government run are the ones who spoon feed the libs by reporting only half truths. The O'Reilly factor had the video clips at the beginning of their show last evening. It was disguisting to watch. In case you didn't catch it (chuckle) you may be able to watch it on his website. I believe any patriotic American who doesn't find it repulsive needs to go to a banana republic and take up residency. Soon you won't need to travel any further than madison to do so. I always LOL when the madison protesters hold up "FOX LIES" signs. Most of these clowns have never watched FOX. If they had, they wouldn't be out there protesting like a pack of wild dogs.

Can anyone actually tell me if a recount means shoving the ballots through the same machines as on election day or do they actually go through the ballots by hand to count?
.
That makes a big difference in what the outcome might be. After what I've read the last week or two, I don't trust the scanner machines.

Janesvillefirst, The first part of your comment doesn't surprise me and as for the second part about this being a home video – it is Breitbart's MO. Look at his history. Short enough?

@myviews2: I don't generally read posts of that length. I skimmed it. But the video that was taken of the yoyo throwing the F bomb at the 14 yr old was a home video, not a Breitbart. What I've found to be amazing is that few, including the teachers that blog here have condemed these actions. There were teachers at the rally with their vuvuzela's.

Janesvillefirst – this behavior is despicable and I condemn it from all sides. Some people have no sense of right or wrong it seems.
*
However, looking a little closer.....
*
The link took me to BreitbartTV. Andrew Breitbard.....famous for selective film editing to create his ultra-right message – if you need facts, just create a situation and stitch some film together. Based on Breitbart's past, it is well within the realm of possibility that this guy is a plant. If you watch the film (if you can stomach this), you will see him avoided by everyone, no one spoke to him and only one person even looked at him except for the camera man. Even the one who initially looked at him seemed to try to ignore him after he heard what he was saying. The subject of the film looked right at the camera a few times. He did not yell insults and profanities while the camera man was describing the setup of the situation but when the camera man was done with the set up explanation, he began again. And if no one could hear anything being said because of the noise, how did the camera man find the guy in the first place and get such a clear video and sound shot of him?
*
And of course we all heard Breitbart himself on Saturday and the crass comments made to the protesters:
*
From Wikipedia:
On July 19, 2010, Breitbart posted two short videos showing excerpts of a speech by Shirley Sherrod at an NAACP fund raising dinner in March 2010. The videos ensuing controversy resulted in Sherrod being fired from the United States Department of Agriculture on July 19. After it became clear that the videos Breitbart posted omitted the point Sherrod was making, Breitbart posted the complete 40-minute video of the speech revealing the true meaning of her statements in context.
*
Breitbart was also involved in the 2009 ACORN video controversy. Hannah Giles posed as a prostitute seeking assistance while James O'Keefe portrayed her boyfriend, and clandestinely videotaped meetings with ACORN staff. Subsequent criminal investigations by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office and the California Attorney General found the videos were heavily edited in an attempt to make ACORN's responses "appear more sinister", and contributed to the group's demise

vatoloco said, "Amazing how many of the protesters in Madison were young college people who have probably never lifted a broom."

Speaking of brooms... Based on the ignorance and inaccurate comments I see many conservatives making here, it's obvious those college kids who have never lifted a broom have many times the common sense and intellect of the witches on their brooms.

I don’t know about you grandys, but I think most attorneys would consider winning an election to sit on the Wisconsin Supreme Court a “life altering” event. There is a possibility that, after a recount, Ms. Kloppenburg could be declared the winner.

SarahB - I'm glad to hear that. With the clerk in Waukesha County not using the same election software as the rest of the state, it makes all elections suspect not just this one. Even if Prosser ends up winning after a recount, that needs to be corrected before the presidential election next year.

Let me hold your hand and draw you a picture P-red. Left wing Huffington's Brookfield Patch had the Brookfield votes. City of Brookfield had them and the AP didn't - big deal! AP is not official. 7316 vote Prosser victory is official and no Wisconsin recount in history amounted to more then 650or so votes.
a Recount now is an abuse and waste of tax payers money and will absolutely help us get stronger in 2012. Go for it....Please!

Gee grandys618, I realize that thoughtful deliberation is not something you do very often, if ever, but others find it helpful, especially when making possibly life-altering decisions. Ms. Kloppenburg lost by a margin of 0.488 percent. Basically she lost by the number of votes that were temporarily “lost” by Kathy Nickolaus, an ardent supporter of the GOP. With all the trouble Ms. Nickolaus has had in manufacturing votes, um oops, I meant counting votes, I hope Ms. Kloppenburg does ask for a recount just to see how many ballots that were cast in Waukesha County would be deemed questionable. I’m sure kaysbrew would agree if Mr. Prosser had lost by the same margin.

There are other videos out there of the crowd booing during the national anthem.

Very simple, as alluded to in other comments below: Ms. Kloppenberg is clearly qualified to serve as a Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice, and being so she used her judgement skills to define victory as an unofficial margin of 200 votes. According to her logic, there is no grounds for a recount when the official tally is a margin of over 7000 votes.

Make no mistake the support for the unions is coming from DC and union headquarters. I for one am proud of Wisconsin for going back to the polls and rejecting the union stranglehold on WI taxpayers and their wallets. Every battle not a victory? What was the last "victory" you had? Maryann Sumi? How long do you think we will let that charade go on? If its battles you want, battles we will give you. Good luck.

I am not surprised by the schoolyard taunts here -- the right rarely shows much maturity in these matters. Certainly, a recount has only a slight chance of overturning a lead as great as the "corrected" vote count, but it is the legal right of the candidate to request one.
.
The opposition to the Walker blitz overturning decades of rights is not "led" from the top, it is fueled by the anger of ordinary people, and this is a disappointment, surely even a setback, but it doesn't change the recall efforts or the legal strategy. Nobody expected any of this to be easy, as the WMC, AFP, ALEC, and the other groups backing this anti-union attack with millions of out of state dollars are organized and prepared for battle. In fact, they've been working on this for years. We will need to be strong to overcome this, and we expect that not every battle will be a victory.
.
So call your little fourth-grade names, kids, but you ain't seen nothing yet.

The only reason for dragging this out (Milwaukee County canvas, upcoming recount, Sumi delay, etc) is to keep the liberal sheep in step. Without a controversy, they're disengaged. Their leaders need to keep them together if they're going to try to salvage anything out of this mess they have made.

I don't believe any recount in Wisconsin history has amounted to more than a 650 vote change. A recount would be another lame attempt by the left to abuse taxpayers. This "judgement" call should be easy for anyone who has good judgement and common sense.
