Police block protesters at Paul Ryan's office

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Thursday, August 25, 2011 - 6:39 a.m.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — Police have turned away a half dozen protesters who have occupied Rep. Paul Ryan's Kenosha office since last week.

The demonstrators were told Wednesday that the congressman's staff and the building's owner signed complaints that bar them from entering. The group began their protest last Thursday. Organizer Shanon Molina says they want to meet with Ryan to talk about jobs. Ryan hasn't been in the Kenosha office since the demonstration began. His staff has offered to set up a conference call with Ryan or have the group submit a written request to meet with the congressman in the future. The Kenosha News says the protesters have declined those offers.

A similar sit-in at Ryan's Racine office has been allowed to continue.

To Ryan's credit, his staff did try arranging a few town hall meetings in his district, but they couldn't find any public locations that had $350 per bottle wine in their wine cellar.

Please tell me what Paul Ryan has done for his district. I don't see that he has done one single solitary thing for any of his constituents. And now he won't even talk to them face to face without $15 a plate. What hypocrisy! Not just Paul Ryan though. This is how it is all across the nation. The Republicans now don't want to meet with their constitudents because they couldn't take the heat last spring when so many of their constituents showed up. The Repubs. couldn't take any opposing their viewpoint. The Repubs. are walking on very shaky ground.

At least you are merely restating your previous point of view with yourself and not arguing with yourself. If you were arguing with yourself then I would worry more. So Obama is to blame for the full current state of economy? I highly doubt that I believe that previous presidents and lawmakers play a role in the current state of affairs also. Heck the American population that purchases Chinese made crap plays a role in the current state of affairs. There are a long list of people to blame I can’t see blaming everything on just one guy, now the people steering the ship are the ones leading this way so the majority of blame certainly goes with them but let’s be honest. Ryan has voted for every bad trade deal that has come onto his desk since he took office. Those deals cost jobs, when jobs are lost potential taxes are lost, and aid going out goes up due to one more family on aid. End result less Americans working, less revenue for government, more cost for government, and less people who can afford to purchase goods in this country. This has been a pattern for the past three presidents’s not just one, it is a compiled issue.

Health care, bailouts, stimulus, budget and lack of, endless spending, housing market, the economy period, no game plan for unemployment, spending that hasn't improved the problem and the list go's on. I don't care if you are a democrat or a republican. Obama is not a leader and has failed as one. Blaming everyone else for his lack of leadership, is not how a President should run a Country. Focus on the problems and put in place solutions that have positive results.

I hate partisan politics and I am disgusted by a few things in the conservative field. But the basics seem right on the mark, and I cannot sway from what REALLY made our country strong. These protests have no purpose. People need to get their opinions out in votes and similar equally-affecting standards. Simply being as much of a pain in the ass as you can---does not warrant your opinion as being more important than everyone else's. Regardless of one's personal stance on a subject, this crap has to stop. This kind of behavior is not associated with conservatives as much as it is liberals. This is literally one reason I have always been turned off by the left.
*
These people are abusing the representative's responsibility, and they need to have it put back in their faces. Paul Ryan and his staff are extremely caring and professional. They are less partisan than most of the democrats I have witnessed around here. Ryan's office has assisted me and more than a few other people I know. The protests need to cease.

Do people really think that every elected official in this country should hold a face to face meeting with every constituent who requests, or worse, demands one? Seriously.

And the $15 'charge' was the ticket price for an event at which he spoke. Happens all the time, in this case, it probably covered the meal for the organization. I believe it was Rotary or Kiwanis...hardly a money making drive and far out of Ryan's control.

Choose your battles, people. It's getting pathetic.

“I am tired of hearing recycled democratic dog barf!” I find it amazing how people feel it is appropriate to treat one another. This occurs on both sides both hard core democrats and republicans being rude and narrow minded. Neither of them care to actually come together and have a meaningful conversation. All that I see people doing on this board is attacking “the other side” what the heck happened to us all being Americans and wanting what was best for our country? This is pathetic! No wonder our country is in the fiscal order it is and our jobs are being shipped overseas in mass numbers! This is not a democratic or republican issue this is about our country as a whole and doing what is best to get things turned around. Both sides have done things that have harmed this country! The fact of the matter is that my young children know to treat other people with more respect than I am seeing on this message board! People in this country need to grow up and work together to solve these problems otherwise we might as well get used to that whooshing sound cause we will keep going down the drain if we don’t stand together and start standing up for one another. I am sick of the attitudes of people in this country. No one cares if their neighbor loses his job because it was shipped overseas but that means that there is one more person on government aid and one less person paying taxes into government. Our fiscal house and our job problem are intertwined; our spending and our tax issues are intertwined. There is not one simple solution to our economic situation but most people are not willing to acknowledge that fact, people just want to blame the other guy and ignore the part that their party played in this issue! This is a sad state I find in our country and I pray that some day we will return to be the great country I knew when I was growing up.

TOTELLTHETRUTH - Do you get your facts from the comedy channel? You are funny - lol. Just so you know here is a quick look at just a few facts on Walker the talker. Regarding his budget bill--> His budget bill is NOT about fixing any budget crisis or problem. Even Fox news did not believe Walker. Shepherd Smith pointed out that it is all about politics & union busting. Walker also said that in his campaign he spoke of taking away collective bargaining rights. Walker never mentoned anything during his campaign on taking away collective bargaining rights. How about Walkers thoughts on placing a "troublemaker" in the Madison rallies to cause problems. That was low and something that a self professed christian would not ever consider - Walker did and shows a thought process that is totally wrong. The local Madison police were even very concerned about this. A governor willing to incite a riot by putting a troublemaker in a rally and then he considers calling the National Guard up. That is crazy and then the next thing you will have is another Kent State shooting - also known as the Kent State massacre. To refresh your memory the Ohio National guard fired over 60 rounds in less than 15 seconds killing 4 students and wounding many others. The man needs to be recalled and the sooner the better.

It seems to me that banning constituents from your office is not a very good idea. Elected officials are supposed to be accessible to those they work for.

I do think it was at least a good effort to have a conference call, but I don't know that I'd want to participate in that venue either. One random voice out of many and not even a personal face-to-face discussion seems to minimize my message. Now back to the article, the protesters did not want to meet; they were given the opportunity and did not take it. To me all they wanted to do was protest and nothing more.
