Janesville working to land medical isotope manufacturer
Janesville appears to have more momentum than two other Wisconsin cities to land a medical isotope manufacturer and 100 or more high-paying jobs.
Greg Piefer, founder and chief executive officer of SHINE Medical Technologies, said Tuesday that his company has not committed to a site in Janesville, Stevens Point or Chippewa Falls for the $80 million start-up operation.
“But we’ve been working awfully hard with the city of Janesville to put together something that might put us there,” Piefer said.
At the moment, that “something” involves the city considering the purchase of 84 acres of farmland on the city’s south side. The city has an option to buy the land, but that option expires Dec. 31.

Janesville is awash in money if we can give awaty 84 acres just for the asking. Our wheel tax will pay for their roads while our property taxes will pay for their city services since it's a TIF, they won't be contributing to the local property tax base for years. Who will pay for our roads? You of course, chump. Can't wait to hear how much of our "saved" money from public employees and the working poor Walker will hand them along with state income tax credits. The new entitlement mentality, give us more, give us more. Ahh America. The land of the free.

Get them here first. If the first employees come from somewhere else fine. Don't you think some of our newest graduates would then go get the necessary schooling to get hired into one of these 2 places. Bring the jobs

One thing every one forgets about is the ancillary jobs created. The facility will need maintenace employees, cleaners, lawn care, etc. There is also the many local construction jobs that will be created. Its a good thing.

I am sure we have plenty of qualified people in Janesville to work at the company. After all Beloit is getting a similar company and I don't think that was brought up so why should it be here? Fingers are crossed that we get this company in Janesville. It is a step forward out of the doldrums currently inclosing our fair community.

Here's hoping they will pick Janesville. I also hope they can look beyond the unfriendly to business attitude that prevails in our local government.

Even if they do hire outside of south central Wisconsin it is still bringing people to Janesville which will improve our local economy.

Unless you have a chem engineering degree or are an analytical chemist, you aren't going to qualify for a job there anyway. Who cares if they're union or not. I have a feeling they're going to be doing most of their hiring outside south central WI.
