Unemployment rose in Wis. cities in June
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Unemployment increased across Wisconsin's largest cities in June.
New figures from the state Department of Workforce Development show unemployment increased in all 31 cities with a population of 25,000 or more.
Beloit had the highest unemployment at 14.2 percent, up from 13.1 percent in May. Caledonia had the lowest at 4.7 percent, up from 4.3 percent the previous month.
The agency attributed the increase to students getting out of school and looking for summer jobs.

fearandrhetoric4dummies - You obviously didn't read the link I posted.
Your train jobs were double and triple counted. Not to mention, the cost to the taxpayer would have been ridiculous. But it was ok for Doyle to rob from the transportation fund that put us in a poor spot now. Do some more research. The train issue is dead and was a bad idea. I understand people not being able to get past the job concept, but in the long run it would have been costly. Lets move on.

Fear--The most important part of the text that you quoted is this--"That's not extra aid for the train, the report says. It's a piece of federal aid that already goes to the state." So basically the Federal government will cover 80% of the costs, but it will be taken from the state's allotment of Federal highway funds. Great deal huh?? Pull funds from maintaining an interstate system that millions depend on to divert it to a train that a couple of hundred(if that) would use on a regular basis......Thank you for admitting you were wrong in exaggerating your employment numbers. I wonder how many of those 5000 jobs would last any more thank a year? Possibly 7 to 10 percent? A little bit hypocritical to be condemning Walker regarding the 12,500 new "temporary" jobs and then turn around and slam him for turning away 5,000 temporary jobs. At least those 12,500 jobs won't end up cosing the state $8 million a year, every year...........The train was a bad idea, it would have been a money pit that the state would have been locked into for decades.

Couple of excerpts from said article. To start the cost for operations was over-estimated from the get go anyways.
""""Richards (D-Milwaukee) addresses a Transportation Department claim that federal aid could cover up to 90% of the cost of the Milwaukee-to-Madison leg, as it does for the Milwaukee-to-Chicago leg.
That's not extra aid for the train, the report says. It's a piece of federal aid that already goes to the state.
In some past years, the state covered Hiawatha operating costs with money designated to reduce southeastern Wisconsin traffic congestion and air pollution, said Fred Ammerman, a supervisor in the bureau. That federal money usually has covered 80% of costs, rising to 90% in years when the train helps travelers avoid freeway construction zones, the report says.""""

Okay spark/ 916, I found the links for yout o read. I will also do a little copy and pasting for those that choose NOT to follow the links, which I know many of you do not do.
I would like also to apologize for my over estimating of the jobs created by the HSR project. It was an honest mistake, not on purpose, it has been a couple of weeks since I read the articles, and I said articles, because the estimation was done by several agencies and those numbers never reached 15,000. They were between 5 and 12 thousand. Is that a reason to downplay the HUGE mistake Walker mad by sending that money back? Those are almost all construction jobs! Not to mention 12 million to repair the hiawatha line that now is a part of the state budget.

The left on here remind me of a bad footbal team. They lose their coach that failed miserably, but they will never admit the failure. They will simply blame the new coach if things don't go their way right away. Unless of course it's the President of the team. He controlled the entire team failure itself during his ownership but they will never lay blame on him.

The list of awful things not happening in Wisconsin grew longer this week, with word that half the new jobs created in the United States during June were created here.
That’s not a typo. The entire U.S. economy created a net 18,000 new jobs in June. Wisconsin created almost 13,000 in the private sector and shed about 3,000 in the public sector for a net gain of about 9,500.

For those that keep with the Mantra that WI businesses are so heavily taxed, do you really know what your'e talking about?? and I ask this seriously.
---
residents pay quite a bit compared to the rest of the nation, but it's for a couple reasons. #1 being the business taxes in this state are low compared to the rest of the country. That's right, they are lower than most. WI corporations pay a flat tax of 7.9% on income. that number hasn't changed in 20 years, so get off the doyle taxing them out of the state, you clearly have no clue.
--
another reason, we don't get as much federal aid as many other states, so the money to keep our state where it's at, and i've traveled this country quite a bit, and WI is nicer than a lot, in a lot of ways when it comes to roads, schools, parks and public services, has to come from somewhere, so it comes from the residents.
---
workers comp premiums in this state are among the lowest in the country and yet we have a good workers comp program.
---
up thru 2004 WI had the lowest cost for unemployment insurance for 13 straight years. Still it is well below the national average.
---
taxes on industrial property ranks among the bottom half to the bottom third compared to the rest of the country. Residential taxes are among the greatest. The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy says, Wisconsin's middle class pays a bigger share of government spending than any other state, except for New York.
--
Why? because we take care of ourselves. Business doesn't pay, and neither does the federal gov't unlike it does in some states where our federal taxes are footing their bills. If you want to be angry at someone, maybe it should be the businesses that AREN'T being taxed and other states, those are the reasons YOUR taxes are high, and get off this taxing business out of the state. You don't know what your talking about, excpet for repeating talking head talking points.

Fear--Walker turned away 15,000 jobs related to the HSR project?? Where did you get that number? Even if it was realistic, how many of them would last more than a couple of months? Also can you please provide the link which had the info regarding the Federal government picking up the estimated $8 million dollar shortfall that the rail project would have cost Wisconsin taxpayers each year? Thanks!

You can't deny the 150,000 plus lost jobs from taxing the crap out of business in the state over the years and making this one of the most business unfriendly states in America. You want jobs? There's a lot of clean up to do that's going to require time. Just ask Obama how the jobs are coming. Get over it.

And of course "facts101" you use the numbers that count the jobs lost in the first 6 mos of the Obummer admin, when the economy was destroyed by the previous admin. Over the last 15 mos the country has added 2 million jobs!!
Walker hasnt created anything but more uncertainty. Many of the jobs that he has taken credit for are not here due to any of his policies. Also the 12,500 jobs created in June will all be gone in September. Remember the Dells is only waterpark central for 3 months a year. You fools really think that is a number to hang your hat on?? Whay dont we talk about how many newly unemployed teachers there are?? Or about how the first(and only) Walker budget raised spending, when he promised it would lower it!! Unemployment is up since he took office, which I dont believe is his fault entirely. But if we are following the same rules you knuckleheads hold Obummer to then he should be held responsible for everything that has happened since he took office and the subsequent 8 years prior. You see the ridiculous partisan double standard here? If you dont then you have been hypnotized!
Plus Scooter Walker sent back almost a billion in Federal aid to build a commuter train that would have employed almost 15,000 wisconsinites. There was funding built into that to operate and maintain it for 20 years, and also funding to repair the Milwaukee to Chicago line that now needs millions in repairs that will come out of the state coffers, instead of the federal dollars. For those of you that hate mass transit while paying 3.75 a gallon, will you hate it so much when youre paying 5 bucks, what about 10?? Not to mention that a private company that got caught illegally conributing to Walkers campaign now gets a 20 million dollar railroad contract. I am sure that none of your right wingers cared when the Doyle admin got put under the microscope for directing the state travel contract to one of his buds right?? I hate pay for play politics on every level, not just one side. I think that these folks should not only not get the contract, but the politicians that get caught breaking rules, should go to JAIL. That would mean that each of our last three elected governors should be sharing cells IMO.
Do you enjoy the outright attack on public education? If our REPUBLICAN AG and DOJ would pursue uncollected taxes and could recover 60% of them the hole in Public ed would be filled! Why would you go after tax evading campaign contributors though??? Curious how its all the fault of the horrible liberals though.

THE recalls would not be taking place if it were not for a certain governor that has no education and continues to make stupid decisions. He will also be recalled. As long as the Democrats control the Federal level, the state level will move up the hill at a slower pace. Once all the pegs are in the proper slots, you will notice the vast improvement.
The main example is when the public union’s rushed contracts expire and after the 2012 elections. Right now it is like assembling an automobile in a tornado thanks to the recalls and union nonsense.

Perfect summary, thekid3477! LOL
Seriously now... students aren't automatically eligible for unemployment compensation. So, if unemployment numbers reflect applications for UC, how could the increase in unemployment be caused by students LOOKING for work? If anything, such increase would be an indirect effect of students FINDING work, thereby causing a corresponding layoff of existing (read: older, more expensive) workers, who actually would be eligible for UC.
(Then again, this comes via the Associated Press so the "grain of salt" rule applies.)
