Feingold sets deadline for Senate decision

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Russ Feingold says he expects to make a decision on whether to run for Herb Kohl’s U.S. Senate seat by Labor Day.

The Democrat was defeated last fall for re-election after three terms in the Senate. Feingold says his break from politics after 28 years in the state Legislature and U.S. Senate has been “healthy” for him. Sen. Kohl, also a Democrat, plans to retire after 2012.

Feingold tells the Journal Sentinel’s Craig Gilbert (http://bit.ly/m6mNuO ) that Democrats in Wisconsin have approached him about running for Kohl’s seat or for governor. Democrats may try to force a recall of Republican Gov. Scott Walker next year. Feingold says he doesn’t have specific thoughts about the two jobs just yet, instead will first have to decide whether he wants to get back into the political arena.

Actually I should recant my variant of the word 'force' in that last statement. Mr Taylor refers to it as a 'relocation.'
Much more pleasant to the mind's voice and ears.
.
It would be a relocation.

I'd take Ron Johnson's brother...if he's not like Ron Johnson.
.
"If the Republican politicians would stand by their ideals rather than pandering to various interests..."
Welcome to the Land of Liberty, my friend, where politicians are the best fighters for the Republic money can buy...and buy, and buy, and buy.
.
This left-right paradigm is an illusion, and has been an illusion for many years. Talking points are used to coddle the masses into believing those who represent their respective parties will do what is in their best need, meanwhile our country heads down the same industrial, financial and economical toilet no matter who's in office, or who is in control of the House, or who's in control of the Senate.
The best thing to do...vote 'em out! And keep voting them out until we got a group of people that know what planet they're on, and will work so accordingly.
I am a BIG fan of 2010 Senate candidate Rob Taylor's idea of forcing all US Senators and US Representatives to serve roughly 70-75% of their time in office, in the State Capitol (Senators) or districts (Representatives) of which they represent.
That would quite possibly put a few lobbyists out of a job, and return us even closer to the Republic we should be, and not this current structure of societal-based, under-the-table-handshake of a democracy.

Republicans are always touting small government. It's not an oxymoron. Unfortunately you might think that because most Republicans seem to think that there is no such thing as too much military and they have adopted a lot of social issues that tend to impede freedom. If the Republican politicians would stand by their ideals rather than pandering to various interests - all Republicans would be for small government. More freedom! More fun! Democrats (and especially Feingold)are for more regulation, more taxes, more laws, more transfer payments and when it comes down to it - they are for bigger military too! (see Obama)

If it's been "healthy" for him, it's been 10 times more "healthy" for Wisconsin and the USA.
Feingold should stay home and keep healing.

I think Senator Feingold has had his day in the sun. He's proven to be much more tow the party line then the maverick he claimed to be.

On second thought, I'm going to start a "Draft Kloppy" petition. We know she can win by at least 206 votes, at least for a while. Maybe Waukesha will come through for her next time.

Not a fan of Feingold but there are worse potential candidates for the Democrats than he. I sincerely hope that we get a conservative with libertarian leanings rather than Feingold or a Republicrat. A real small government Republican is what we need. Does Ron Johnson have a brother?

I think Mr. Feingold would be great as a senator or governor. He was NOT a solid party line vote. You had to earn it. He was able to give sound reasons why he did or did not vote for something, not just the party leader rhetoric. I did not always agree with him, but he was very professional and well versed. He visits every county in WI to listen to constituents. That takes a lot of time and effort not every senator takes. When he lost the election, most "experts" on TV were surprised. Most have a great deal of respect for Feingold and do not consider him an embarrassment to WI.

Just how many pages did you read? And did you read all other acts that the Patriot Act amended as well? ... Unless you were intimately familiar with all of the other acts that the Patriot Act amended, and took the time to understand every title of the Patriot Act, you would have little idea what the act does.

Well let’s start the “Obamacare” discussion by actually calling it by its real name and not a Fox smear. It is called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. I have been respectful with the Patriot Act in regards to the sections which I disagree with and quoted specific section for reference and why I disagree with it. Could you do the same with this act? What statistics do you have that it is so bad? “…something that will add trillions to the national debt” Please provide evidence because the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the passage of this bill will decrease the deficit by $143 billion in the first decade and $1.2 trillion in the second decade. So where was the evaluation done that stated that it will add trillions to the debt?

Well for one I am against the sneak and peak provisions in section 213. This provision is unconstitutional because you are not notified of the warrant or the search. If you are not notified then you can not verify that it was allowed under the fourth amendment. The warrant is required to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. How do you verify any of that if they can sneak in and out without your knowledge? How I was raised that is called breaking and entering!

That is my biggest complaint, but I don’t support a document which is mainly good and only violates one constitutional right. It should never have been passed with that in it!

He was also a fool for voting/defending Obamacare-something that will add trillions to the national debt, does nothing to improve the quality of healthcare(and will in fact cause it to decrease),and that the majority of Americans opposed(and still do)-how's that for foolishness and idiocy?

mespl-yes I have read it-and I have absolutely no problem with it either. As usual, all the typical scare/fear tactics the Democrats so loudly voiced were all over-blown(as usual). Seems now that Obama is President he feels differently about it as opposed as to when he was campaigning-just one other thing he needs to thank Bush for!

Sarah and mespl-He was definitely in the minority at opposing the Patriot Act-as was Obama-but gee, guess who (Obama) recommended it's renewal and extension, insisting that it was vital to the nation's security.Guess he's more Bush-like than you think at times.
